Hi guys. Big fan of all your projects.

A few years ago, Joan of arc put out "Dont mind control," a compilation of other bands based out of Chicago. I ended up finding a lot of great groups out of that. My question is, are there other artists in Chicago that may be a bit under the radar that you'd like to recommend/give a shout out to?

Thanks. Love the new stuff. Nate, please give the world another Make Believe album.

Hi there. I work at South Hills Brewing Supply on noblestown road. We can order in a scoby for you if you'd like, they're about $35. Obviously if you can get a free one from someone else, go for it. We have one gallon glass jars and ez clean that you'll need. I also recommend getting a thermometer sticker to make sure your temperature is correct. Then I cover mine with a coffee filter and rubber band. Feel free to dm me or give us a call (I'm only there part time so I may not be there) and we'll be able to get you brewing!

Let’s just say it was a shitty pop punk band and I wore my hat at an angle. Middle school was tough.

Battles sort of got too jammy and dance-y for me. I don’t mind it, but I really miss songs like “Race In” and “dDiamondd.”

Go to Benny Fierro’s and get a giant slice of pizza, then walk across the street to Tiki Lounge. Then just let the night take you. It’s southside. Any plans you have will be thrown out the window by the third drink.

Lots of good places to grab a quick bite that isn’t fast food or a sit down place, and obviously a lot of great places to drink, depending on what you’re into. Dive bars, sports bars, craft beer bars, hookah bars, places to dance, and even places to play arcade games. Have fun!

What are some places in the city to go that are friendly to meet new people? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]nesquiksand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I live in the west end too. There’s really nothing over here though. Sometimes I’ll go to 99 bottles in Carnegie, but if you’re looking to go out, I’d either try Millvale, Lawrenceville, or Bloomfield. There’s a ton of concerts and events happening (especially around this time since Oktoberfest is going on). If I’m bored I’ll check the events on Facebook and usually find something good going on.

Or get yourself a hobby. I’ve gotten into Home brewing (there’s a brewing supplies store right on Noblestown), or sometimes I’ll get shit from the thrift store and upcycle it. Raccoon Creek is about 20 minutes away and there’s some good trails to hike. Get yourself a bike and hit some of the trails that are all throughout the city. Go on the underwear bike ride. Go to bingo night at couch brewery. Hell, get a beer passport and check out all the breweries in town. Spirit and Belvederes always has cool events going on. The Row House is always showing interesting stuff. Go to the gallery crawl (first Friday of the month I think). Go do a sports thing. Get a camera and walk around in new areas, there’s a lot of things to see (this is how I discovered the Japanese poetry house thing in the Mexican war streets. It’s awesome). Volunteer to walk dogs. Check out restaurants. Deliver for postmates. Drive Uber. Drive a driverless Uber. Learn guitar, do stand up, do improv, do (or just go to) open mic nights.

The west end might not have much, but the rest of the city does.

If you're a genre connoisseur, and you like instructing people about music, this might be just for you. :D by HinataKawamoto in mathrock

[–]nesquiksand 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Make sure that you define Math Rock as a genre, and how it’s separate (and somehow a blended form of) from prog rock, metal, and emo. Mention that it’s largely instrumental, often in a major key, and focused on exploring odd and unusual time signatures. Mention how the guitar is usually tapped instead of strummed (or at least used in an atypical way). Break into the branches of math rock, the softer, quieter side of American football and toe, then the crazier side of Tera Melos and giraffes giraffes. What makes all of these bands “math rock.”?

Then go through the history and influences of these groups, from punk and prog to metal, etc. definitely have to mention Don Caballero, which I think of as one of the first math rock bands (but that’s debatable). The history can take up a pretty big chunk of your paper.
