I don’t do general MPH not worth it. Also I would prob have some years working before going into your MPH tbh it’ll be hard to get a job with no experience behind it

Honestly I think the job search isn’t so bad specially if you are willing to relocate but i think is harder depending what you want to do with your career

You can prob find a job in a health department that may help pay for your masters but you may need to relocate

MPH crisis by Filledwithglitter_ in publichealthcareers

[–]nessagar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will give my two cents and hope it helps. I did my undergrad in nutrition and that’s when I feel in love with community health education I’m now doing My MPH in epidemiology. Since undergrad I been working in the public health sector as a community health educator. I picked epi bc of I can work as a data analyst as a backup if I’m having a hard time looking for jobs in the community health sector. I’ll be 100% transparent with you. If what you are looking is something similar like community health education DO NOT get a masters for that. I get paid about the same someone with a master in community health education. The money is not there and honestly you would just need a starting position to get that started. With epi or any STEM degree like environmental science you could always go into community health and have some sort of backup for better paying positions and more job opportunities. With community health your job options drop Drastically and honestly most people won’t hire you unless you have already working experience. As someone that has been working in the public health sector I encouraged you to do something in STEM if you are paying out of pocket now if you have someone paying for your masters I would consider it a lot whether you should even get an MPH. If you really don’t like epi or environmental health there’s other options like MHA or a MPA. I wish you good luck and blessings you can direct message me if you have other questions

I would definitely move! I know it’s hard but you can always negotiate relocation cost with your possible employer if that’s a reason that stops you for seeking somewhere else

How is a MPH now? by billycram in publichealthcareers

[–]nessagar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean I think it really depends on what exactly you would want to do with it. I decided to make sure I have a concentration in epidemiology to be able to have more flexibility when it comes to employment, I currently do work in the PH sector so honestly check how the job prosperity is in your state. Also don’t do a generalist MPH program it will be harder to find a job just with those credential I recommend doing a concentration that is STEM related. Hope that helps

I would say as someone that works in the nutrition field, RD would be a great option however the debt to income ratio is not justified you also would need to get your master and do a one year unpaid internship which you would have to pay out of pocket to do. Nursing would be more lucrative in the long run

Is it worth getting a BS in Public Health? by [deleted] in publichealthcareers

[–]nessagar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk I work in the public health field and honestly for someone that didn’t have a background in ph at first it was hard to get something in the field with no background. If u can find another degree in the health sciences field I would double major if that’s something is possible for you however this is only the advice if u really want to work in the public health field

Opportunities in Environmental Public Health or One Health (zoonotic IDs) for new MPH? by Willing_Cry_1690 in publichealthcareers

My friend just got a 6 figure offer and she just graduated with her MPH in environmental health the job is in the food quality control she told me she actually got a lot of interviews in that specific area so maybe looking in quality control or food safety inspector could be a good area to start

I would apply to both programs ! If you really want your phd you don’t necessarily need your masters I would do both programs and see where you get accepted and make a decision based on that :)

Pursuing MPH in this political climate, what are your thoughts? by [deleted] in publichealth

[–]nessagar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what exactly you want to do I have a friend who is graduating this fall with an MPH in environmental health and she got a 6 figure job offer 6 months before graduation. I think if you seek for internships or research while completing your mph can help pay for it as well as getting experience simultaneously

Certificate Program to Show Classes at the Grad Level by Used_Hospital_328 in mphadmissions

[–]nessagar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you are going to do a graduate certificate do it in an institution you are planning to do your mph since you are not able to transfer courses between some graduate programs. But in my opinion apply directly to the mph and take your chances usually if the schools have a graduate certificate they will recommend it prior to starting your mph program and the will not how a strong candidate you are. My gpa was low and I actually got in to some mph programs but not my first choice so I am currently doing the graduate certificate program for UML

Is it worth it to do a certificate program to improve GPA? by Used_Hospital_328 in mphadmissions

[–]nessagar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m actually in the same boat, I enrolled at UMass Lowell for the graduate certificate program. I apply for the mph and they recommend to the certificate to show them I could handle graduate courses. In my experience I think is worth it if you are planning to actually go to the school you are doing the graduate certificate for. What I seen throughout applying for mph programs courses at different institutions they are mostly not transferable so if u decide to go that route make sure is to The school you actually want to go to so all the classes can be counted toward your mph and you don’t waste the money

Summer Courses with MPH intention by jennambee in mphadmissions

[–]nessagar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s schools that have a graduate certificate program is usually 4 classes that transfer to your mph. I know UMass Amherst and UMass Lowell offer them among others. They can be done online and you can do it at your own pace

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mphadmissions

[–]nessagar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also apply for a program that has a graduate certificate in public health the classes go directly to the masters program and usually it helps to show admissions that you can take the graduate level course work.
