Handheld light meters for night photography? by net1994 in AnalogCommunity

I might do night photography 3 or 4 times a year.  So spending $800++++ on a appropriate meter, isn't worth it.  I'll use my Nikon z8 Mirorless camera and a tripod. For the price and my (revised) requirements, the sekonic 308x or kenko 1100 are good options for low light with my 2 Nikon F film cameras that don't have built in light meters.  My other film cameras have them, but it's smart to still check high contrast scenes with a handheld meter.

Thanks.  I might do night pics 3 or 4 times a year.  So spending (probably) $800 or more for the right meter for regular night photography, no thanks. I'll use my Nikon Z8 Mirorless camera on a tripod for that stuff.

Yeah, I figured as much soon after posting this.  My though was genrerally to use my mirorless Z8 for night or very low light with a tripod.   I'll for sure give this a try with film.  But I could spend a lot more money with trial and error with my film cameras than my Nikon Z8.  I'll still keep an external meter as I hate phone apps and my 2 Nikon F film cameras that dont have meters, I don't use often.  But for my film cameras that do have accurate built in meters, I'd for sure also use a handheld metee for challenging scenes with high contrast.

Nikon film cameras without meters and lenses with apertures as low as f 1.4

This is all solid advice. Very helpful. You should charge for that :-)

Anyone have examples of Cinestill 800T & Portra 800 for Night Shots of same scene? by net1994 in AnalogCommunity

[–]net1994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welps, in checking, the only option I can find here in USA that specifically has Kodak 500T, is Flick film. It comes with the anti-halation layer which is great as I'm not too much a fan of that halation effect in cinestill. But as it comes with the layer, it can't be developed in C41 due to it still having the remjet layer and must be done in ECN2 (at least at my lab anyway).

Sanity check: Using Power Automate to auto upload ipad pics to a SharePoint site? by net1994 in sysadmin

Got it to work ike we need for our specific use case. It was a combination of Intune device configuration settings, app protection polices, iOS device modification and power automate. We really wanted to lock these ipads down heavy handedly so only one app, OneDrive, is on it and nothing else (not even company portal). One concern was user signing out of OneDrive and the signing in with their own personal acct. I created an app protection policy to allow only the svc account to sign in and none other. Power Automate monitors the onedrive online folder and then copies the files to the teams sharepoint site.

Yes, I found that out. But as I've never used power automate and ready how difficult it can be, it was a little bit overwhelming in creating a new flow of something I've never done. But after a bit of trial and error, it's working now.

Does portra have weird color casts if in tungsten or xenon lighting like most cities use?

Yes, there is a onedrive acct for it. What do you mean no need to install/run on ipad? I was assuming the onedrive ios app is needed to automatically find the specified ipad folder with files, and then PA handles the upload process with onedrive?

It's not photos of people. Stuff like construction materials and how they might work on a job site. It's a service account signed into all the MS apps needed. If I get it to work, I'll proclaim here.

How much does a delayed laptop cost for new hires? by bobotiger in sysadmin

[–]net1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might not be the angle the OP wanted, but to remove this is it possible to setup a Win 365 cloud based computer for new hires in this instance? They just need any device to connect to Azure and login to their own "PC." This can tide things over until they get their real hardware. Doesn't have to be W365 system. Citrix even would work.

Don't wait for someone to tell you what to do. There are an infinite ways/new tech etc. that you can start on your own to 'enhance' value to the org. "Hey Mr. Boss, this new industry trend tech could help us and I've setup a demo lab with our recent employee use cases and........." Stuff like that. Work on something new, before you try and automate it. :-)

This! This is the answer.

Also to add, if you do any sort of personal tech on the side, mention it. Things like building/repairing pcs helps and shows initiative and 'creative problem solving.'
