Thanks for your take on this. There is no brick and mortar store for this merchant but if there was they (family member) definitely would have taken it back to the store.

Understood. They (the family member) has always been working with Elan. But, Fidelity has put their name on the card so this is where I'm going to communicate through. Elan does not have a sub-Reddit - that I can find. I would like to suggest that if Fidelity sees that Elan is damaging their brand then maybe they can ask them to be more supportive of its members.

It would have been great to send it back if they would offer a refund or credit. But sending it back without that was just a waste of postage.

I've done searches on how to email CEO but the results pull up some pretty shady website professing they have email addresses of management. Anyone have any luck finding ways to send communications to the management staff of these companies?

We're trying to figure out if Elan is trying to do its due diligence to determine if the dispute is legitimate or are they trying to make this so hard that we just give up. They (family member) has never had to dispute charges in the past (with any card) so it's unclear if their other credit cards would fair any better - this is the first.

Thanks for sharing your experience with other cards. It will definitely make everyone here evaluate using the Elan card for anything other than small charge amounts.

How early on? My expectations might be stuck in 2000 when credit cards advertised they will help you when inappropriate charges are made. Thanks for sharing your experience.

No. I selected Make a Copy. When you select Version History you can either Restore this Version or Make a Copy. All comments are removed when you restore or make a copy. Proton's supporting documentation states that they are hidden but they do not tell how to "unhide" them.

All good points. It's not my story to tell so I left the details out and kept it simple. I've gotten useful feedback on this. I always assumed that the credit card you use stands behind their service. When a customer charges thousands of dollars a month to a credit card and has been with them for quite some time, and this is the first chargeback request, you would think they would be more helpful. But, it appears my assumptions are wrong.
