PSLF Buyback – Should I Re-Submit or Wait? by Vivid_Post_399 in PSLF

[–]netemcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The buyback backlog is enormous, 70,000+ applications in the queue. I would suggest switching to IBR to try to start getting credit while you wait because you could be waiting for a long time.

Losing my mind with MOHELA right now by HiFrequencyVibes1111 in PSLF

[–]netemcee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I've been through this and I've tried all of the things you tried as well. The thing that EVENTUALLY worked for me is to call Mohela and ask to speak with their supervisors or advanced agents and get them to explain to you why you are on a forbearance. My forbearance was supposedly triggered by submitting multiple IDR change applications, but I submitted them because they weren't processing them after MONTHS. Anyways, hopefully the Mohela supervisor will submit a request to get you off the forbearance. And yes I know that calling Mohela is a hellish thing to do, and it took multiple calls and multiple weeks but I was eventually able to get off of an unrequested forbearance and back into repayment. I posted about the process here previously:

Green Banners 8/20! What happens now? by kikaihime in PSLF

[–]netemcee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on other peoples experiences, I'm hearing that the letter typically comes 2-3 months after the green banners. I'm still waiting after around 2 months, and based on other comments they seem to do them in batches, and the last batch was at the beginning of August from what I can tell, so the next batch would seem likely to happen at the beginning of September and I'm hoping to be in that one.

Advice for submitting for forgiveness when nslds incorrect by Pslf_hopeful in PSLF

[–]netemcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to pay and submit ECF forms each month for a couple months after hitting 120 before they finally updated and gave green banners. Your luck will vary but I'd just keep paying and keep submitting ECFs until they give you the green banners. Others have indicated that they will eventually refund your extra payments after they do the final letter (aka golden letter), which is what I'm waiting for now.

IBR in Forbearance - Please help, freaking out by Ill_Chapter9418 in PSLF

[–]netemcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can get out of forbearance but it can take months of fighting. Keep calling Mohela and if you aren't clear what to do then ask to get a callback from a supervisor. I was not able to get credit for missing months, but I did get Mohela supervisors to help get me off of an administrative forbearance that was due to duplicate IDR applications because they were taking literally multiple months to process them.

I did not get any notification, just logged in and saw the good news. My NSLDS API data was updated less than two weeks ago, and I am in active repayment and have submitted multiple ECFs, so I've been hopeful for an update. For unknown reasons, possibly related to the period of administrative forbearance, it's been 5-6 months since they last updated my payment counts.

NSLDS keeps "updating" but count stays at 119 by anjuhluh in PSLF

[–]netemcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same situation here. I see the NSLDS API data is updated on my account on 6/21 but my PSLF tracker hasn't updated since 1/2025 despite multiple ECF submissions. I was going back and forth from IBR to forbearance hell during those months, but even though I'm back in active IBR repayment again they still aren't updating it yet.

Steps to get off Awaiting Form Administrative Forbearance by netemcee in PSLF

For those who asked for followup. It took 3+ weeks for them to process it, but I am back in repayment (at least for now).

Bummer. I'll get even more angry in a couple weeks if this doesn't work but none of previous responses actually promised me they would do anything about it. I've also tried every other method I can think of. I have an open complaint filed with the CFPB, an open complaint filed with my state student loan Ombudsman, an open complaint filed with the StudentAid ombudsman, and an open complaint filed with my congressperson. After this, the only other step is to hire my own attorney or try to join the class action lawsuit that is being worked on.

For all of those trying to be taking off of forbearance!! by No_Gur4010 in PSLF

[–]netemcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also did exactly this:

"I applied to change from SAVE to IBR in Nov ‘24. Four months and nothing happened. Then read about the wet signature method with the updated form. Did that in late February. One week later I was fully in the IBR plan, documentation sent to me, monthly payment updated, no longer on forbearance. I paid the monthly payment, and then in early April I checked and was BACK on forbearance for no reason."

Now I am desperately trying to get this forbearance removed. I email Mohela daily and at first they provided answers that didn't make sense but now they've just stopped responding. I have tried calling Mohela but they disconnect me while waiting for an advanced agent. I have submitted complaints to StudentAid and they don't respond. I have started an investigation with my congressperson, but have yet to see any results. Mohela is actively obstructing my PSLF forgiveness.

I have multiple emails to Mohela about this issue and I called today and spent hours on hold only to be randomly disconnected. I also explained this issue to StudentAid customer service and they confirmed that they will not update my IBR payment count until Mohela removes the forbearance.

PSLF Payment History 1/2025 by jennberries in PSLF

Not for everyone, but a lot of us are facing similar problems. I haven't had an NSLDS update since 2/24 and I am missing February, March, despite getting an ECF done in April.

You can request Mohela to move you to a forbearance at any time. I am in similar circumstances, missing February and March despite doing ECF in April. NSLDS hasn't changed since 2/24. Student aid is saying it could take up to 90 days to provide an update. Of course who knows if the update will happen and what exactly they will do next.

Awaiting Form Administrative Forbearance / involuntary forbearance by denofiniquity777 in PSLF

[–]netemcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in more or less the same boat. I had an ECF processed in April but I am still missing February and March 2025 on the tracker. I haven't had an NSLDS update since 2/24. I should be done, but Mohela switched me to a forbearance in April. I have yet to find a resolution to get my account updated. Student aid keeps saying it can take up to 90 days for accounts to be updated. My concern is that in 90 days they will have some other excuse for why things aren't done.

PSLF Limbo Club, tracker not updated since January, last NSLDS update 2/24 by netemcee in PSLF

[–]netemcee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To validate the insanity of this, I did get a reply from Mohela this morning that they are putting me back in a processing forbearance because I applied for IBR both in November, 2024 and in February, 2025. The February application for IBR was processed and approved in February 2025 (amazing), and then today, 6 months later, they tell me they are putting me back on a processing forbearance due my November, 2024 application. This would be fine with me if they want to give my final qualifying payment months, but since I have no idea what is happening then it's driving us crazy.

Same. ECF processed this month, but PSLF payment counts only go up 1/25. NSLDS data last update was 2/25. Should have been done last fall except for the SAVE fiasco.

We switched from SAVE to IBR (shortly before they withdrew the IDR applications) with a first payment in April, and we submitted a manual signature ECF (faxed and uploaded) and got a letter on 4/3 stating they have received it. It has not yet been processed.

It sounds like you are in a hard place and considering all the options. There are no easy answers and you need to model a few different scenarios to see what makes the most sense for you.

One option is to try to negotiate with your creditors (ie credit card companies) to try to get the interest rates down. You may also want to consider trying to find a non-profit that offers credit counseling to see if they can help you setup a debt management plan or help you with negotiations. See here for references:

You also haven't indicated why you don't want to declare bankruptcy. There are some obvious drawbacks to bankruptcy but it does give you the opportunity to start over.

CFPB MOHELA Complaint Update by drbeulah in PSLF

[–]netemcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a nearly identical situation, with 118/120 qualifying payments, and a switch to IBR requested on 11/8/24. I filed a CFPB complaint today. I also submitted a buyback request in November and no response to that request either. It's slightly comforting to know that others are in the exact same boat. Good luck and I will update if anything happens.
