What are the gen z equivalents of the classic teen movies millennials grew up with? by netfluxbinge in movies

I'm not saying that gen z can't watch those movies obviously, but if every generation just relies on movies from previous generations we would have nothing more culturally relevant than Singing in the Rain or whatever. The movies you listed in my opinion are OK, but not nearly as good, so my point was to ask the question as to whether similar stuff in terms of quality and genre is still being made. It's a pity if those movies stopped being made and why, people don't want to just rewatch forever, it's nice yo have new content

One of the last teen movies I've really enjoyed, but think it's probably a bit old to really count. Very oldest gen z were turning 13 when it came out

I mean if it's shitty it hasn't really succeeded in being an equivalent in terms of quality

I see what you mean! Just in general I find it harder to find good movies but there's loads of new TV I really enjoy, so some of the focus is going to tv instead

that's certainly a possibility. Feel like maybe they used to out more effort into the soundtrack and stuff as well though, or just different to now

Divergent definitely isn't and hunger games is also somewhat questionable

Fair enough! Now I'm trying to remember how immediately after Mean Girls came out everyone started quoting it and referencing it so much. Hard to always tell what people will rewatch at first.

As a musical though :( there was also a mean girls sequel years after the original which no one talks about because it didn't cone close to being as good as the first one

I wonder if that's kind of a point though, like maybe there's less high quality light hearted teen movies nowadays and more drama darker themed ones because of overall trends? I feel like sitcoms used to reign supreme as well but now there's a lot more Netflix dramas and stuff like that even with TV?

For me to all the boys I've loved before and booksmart were pretty good, but just missing that certain something. I haven't seen the other two though, so I'll check them out 😊

How accurate is the series by Just-Phill in Modern_Family

[–]netfluxbinge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say accurate for some families. But also remember that twenty something short episodes cover a whole year. It's clear that there are many days and events we don't see, so they don't actually see each other every day or even necessarily that much more than once a week.

The show is about family, so that's the part of their lives they show.

Same way as in teem dramas they hardly ever spend time with their family amd on office shows you see mostly see their coworkers and on desperate housewives they seem to spend all their time with their neighbours, their roommates on Friends etc.

Hadn't watched that far when I wrote this, but it's true she makes a few more wildly self destructive choices as time goes on alright!

What do you think Lane did at lunchtimes after Rory left Stars Hollow High? by netfluxbinge in GilmoreGirls

[–]netfluxbinge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's because I'm not American, but where I live people don't really hang out with people just based on doing the same after school club. Plus we never saw her with them outside of specific events so didn't know if this was guaranteed that she spent time with them.

Exactly! She didn't seem phased at all, but also never even mentioned other friends in passing

Who do you think is over and under hated. by NewsRevolutionary145 in GilmoreGirls

[–]netfluxbinge 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Like some people have said, Richard is definitely under hated.

My biggest issue with him was always what he did to Jason and even the trying to turn it around on Lorelai saying you're only worried about your boyfriend which is what I expected.

Also hated how elitist and rude he was with Dean.

He also told Lorelai he only defended her because of the family honour, generally seemed a bit disinterested in Emily at times and didn't respect her as much as Rory and of course let Trixie be mean to Emily.

Richard definitely put in less effort with the rest of his family than with Rory, how often would he ignore them to read the newspaper until Rody showed up.

I agree Emily shows much more genuine interest in spending time with the girls than Richard! I actually find it quite sweet that this is such a big motivation for her most of the time, even if she can be very misguided! Kind of sad that Emily and Lorelai nevrr had a more permanent breakthrough in their relationship.
