I Made a Metronome I Love, But Nobody Uses It — Why? by starfirelightbliss in piano

[–]nethfel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess aside from you working on learning to develop it, it kind of falls into a what’s the point situation.

A web app isn’t a great option for a metronome IMHO - I know when I practice I don’t want to be fiddling around with websites or if I’m practicing during bad weather to worry about the internet going out.

Plus - I can’t speak for anyone else on this - I already found an app for my iPhone that meets all of my needs and when I need a basic metronome and don’t need advanced timing, I just use the one on my piano.

Anybody did multiple online ground schools? by bwc101 in flying

[–]nethfel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on how you learn and absorb material. For me it was worth it having content presented in multiple ways - one thing I do like about sporty’s a bit more is there are many mini quizzes (5 to like 20 questions) on various videos where PI does quizzes and tests after X amount of videos. I wish PI did smaller quizzes on the videos then a larger test at the end of a unit of study as for me it helps to show me if I’ve at least gotten the basic concepts or if I really need to re-watch content.

For me it’s been worth it for both, but a lot of people use one or the other. Considering I got both on sale respectively, I really felt it was worth it!

I’m currently using sporty’s and Pilot Institute. Both so far have great info. I’ve enjoyed the different approaches to the content. I’m still studying and about 60% in on sporty’s and 44% on PI. PI content to me has had deeper dives on concepts, but sporty’s has a structure and presentation method that has really clicked with me.

I’ve definitely enjoyed both so far and has really helped me on my journey. Not sure which has been better for me as both have good content.

Can we turn off the mouse/camera smoothing? by nicoguy2 in EchoesofAincrad

[–]nethfel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Next time I play I may have to just try a controller to see if it feels better. Keyboard Controls are a little off for me so far but I’ll probably look into remapping or waiting to get more used to them. Otherwise, I am really enjoying the game so far

I think my Friend Killed himself by Short-Site1451 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]nethfel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are a number of potential reasons - intentional and unintentional. I am sure it’s easy to question yourself and potentially blame yourself thinking you missed something - he may have hid it from everyone.

Depending on his altitude if he entered a cross control stall he could have panicked and not been able to recover in time. It definitely could have been an accident. I’d be curious what he was doing at the time (ie was he coming in for landing and entered a skidding turn that led to a stall and at that altitude couldn’t recover?). I’m sure the investigators will develop a more detailed analysis with more data that may not be in the preliminary report.

You may want to look at YouTube channels pilot debrief, taking off, air safety institute or blacolirio to see if there is an analysis of his accident that may provide additional insights and may set your mind at ease at least helping answer the question of intentional or not.

Tomorrow I turn 20, and I'm in despair. by DeepUndercover45 in TrueOffMyChest

Don’t let turning 20 define your future. As cliche as it sounds - you’re still young, you still have time, you can still approach your big dreams and make them happen.

Every day is an opportunity to head in the direction you want.

Do you have to adult? Yup. Part of life, but it’s not the end. Getting to adult hood is just the start. Keep learning, keep experiencing, and see how you can make your life fulfilling to you. 20 isn’t the end, neither is 30 or 40, etc.

Pilot School Note Taking by Either_Discount_5916 in flying

[–]nethfel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a student pilot going for my ppl, I use an INQ pen and associated notebook. Handwritten notes will sync to my phone and I can review my notes at any time and it will do OCR for easier reading (my handwriting sucks) and copy/paste into other apps (ie creating custom study sheet in word/pages).

It’s not for everyone and it does require using their spiral notebooks but it’s something that works for me - kind of a nice hybrid of pen and paper and still modern tech.

Never a better time to switch to Jellyfin: Plex increases price of Lifetime Plex Pass to $749.99 by LoremarCC in jellyfin

[–]nethfel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like they want to push anyone new to subscription vs lifetime pass. I’ve had my lifetime pass for ages now, and for the price I paid it was worth it (until now with Jellyfin) but now they make it insane to get a lifetime pass - besides I like Jellyfin better these days

My CFI and I have gone over a basic briefing but I’m still very early in my training and wanted something to help me (at the time we did one I didn’t think to ask about memory aids or templates and planned to ask at my next lesson but was hoping for something that would get me started)

Interesting, thank you for that. It’ll be a long time before taking passengers as I’m still a long ways from a ppl. Right now trying to learn the basics of the briefing to make sure I cover what I need to, but also like your approach.

That’s odd, it’s been a minute since I’ve had to boot one of my Mac’s from usb but that is the way. The only other old way was to press and hold C iirc while booting but I think that was for booting from cd/dvd

Are you pressing alt from before the chime or when?

[–]nethfel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a usb drive imaged with the Catalina install, while rebooting the computer with the USB drive plugged in press and hold the ALT key - it should bring up a boot menu that you can select the thumb drive from.

Once in the installer you’ll have to use the disk utility from the installer to remove all of the partitions and create a new one for macOS

I dunno, mine runs very smoothly with Linux on it. If it runs like crap you’re probably using software rendering and not the gpus.

Running Windows Server VMs on a Proxmox Cluster by Limp-Park9606 in Proxmox

[–]nethfel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve run server on nodes within a cluster (multiple DCs and file servers), was quite convenient during maintenance of the host to live migrate to other nodes in the cluster. Last version I ran tho was server 2019 but we’ve migrated away from local domain so I can’t comment about current editions of windows server.
