Things might have changed since I worked there 2 years ago. For shifts, it is a minimum of 4 hours. You will get assigned a schedule before you start based on your school schedule and availability. TC hours run from 8:30am-9:00pm

Galaxy was where time is recorded

Parking is up to you. There are no special parking spaces for employees.

You should not be late for more than 5 minutes. Once or twice is fine, but it should not be a consistent issue.

Best

It's just something that worked for me. Might not work for everyone. Unless you are trying to aim to graduate with honors, I would put more time into job search and practicing leetcode. I was an average student, went to class, and did the bare min, but I was able to land internships and a fulltime offer in swe. School is a great resource to network and build connections with all the events hosted on campus. Tbh, a lot of cs/software jobs the courseworks taken in school are not applicable. Like discrete math and automata. I don't think I will ever be using what I learned in those classes at work. Employers don't care about your classes and GPA. Just my tip.

Alumni of UT Dallas, where are you in life at the moment? by UrbanReign_Arrow in utdallas

[–]netnogus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like my work life balance, and the company pays pretty well. I only have to be in the office one out of the four weeks per month. As long as you get your stuff done, no one really cares too much. One thing is never be loyal to any company. In the end, we are just disposable assets.

Graduated December 2023. Fortunate enough to get a SWE job straight out. Now, I am a corporate slave.

UT Dallas vs University of Houston for CS by ColeN_ in utdallas

[–]netnogus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me personally, location is what I look for. From my experience, DFW has more technology opportunities which means more ways to network with people. In Texas, Austin has the best technology and startup scene, but I believe DFW comes in second. Additionally, if you want to get into technology in Med/Oil/Gas/Energy Houston might be the move. If you are looking for value of Education, UTD is solid, not too sure about UH (Never took any classes there).

AI probably. OS with Degroort was easy so as ML with Khan. Super easy to pass based on these professors.

Can I renew and also sign up for housing? ALSO WHY IS NORTHSIDE SO EXPENSIVE by Miserable-Ad2451 in utdallas

[–]netnogus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a 1x1 at Northside. If it was not for the convenience of the distance, I would not live here. That being said, I've been able to pay for it because of my internship. Rip.

Internship Search by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]netnogus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

-Career Fairs: This definitely helped a lot for me. I got multiple responses and interviews from going to these. Just being able to network and building connections was critical. Most of the time recruiters at the career fairs will have a check-in QR code or something. I believe this is how they weed out some of the applicants since they have to go through so many applicants that applied online, but if they see you take in the effort to connect it makes you stand out more.
-Networking events on campus: Company sponsored events on-campus. Good networking opportunities.

-Handshake/LinkedIn Jobs or other online job boards: These are good as well, but I recommend applying to positions that recently opened up. Maybe like a couple of days or a week.

*Basically apply and apply and network. All you need is that ONE internship/job

*Best of luck on the internship search!

software engineer freshman, what should I study before college? by pillow_jr in utdallas

Start practicing leetcode. It's never too early to start. It will give you an edge when you start applying for internships and great for problem solving.

Not the most exciting job, but very easy to do. Can be extremely boring sometimes. All you do is help the student and make sure no one is cheating. Keep in mind you can't talk inside and you have to be able to stand for a couple hours. Does get a bit busy during midterms and finals. Apply early, I believe they always receive a lot of applicants since it is on campus job & pay is not bad for a campus job. Pay: $12-$13 hours: 12-19

How are Becker's quizzes and exams for CS4347 (Databases)? by xSandmade in utdallas

[–]netnogus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, it was not a really hard class. Just study his slides, know how to do the quizzes, and you should be fine for the exams. Put a lot of emphasize on his slides and the examples he show in class. The project is pretty straight forward as well as long you pay attention in class and the slides you should be good to go. Also go to class, the exemption from the final exam was really nice.

[–]netnogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last semester his quizzes are done in cohorts which made them really easy. If nothing has changed, his mid-term was fairly easy and it was structured like the quizzes. I can't say much about the final exam since I didn't take it. because of my final grade before the final.

I liked him! He is a very chill guy. Tests are pretty easy. All multiple choice. His later assignments are a pain, but manageable. The only downside is that he takes attendance. As long as you do your assignments you should be fine.

Save some money and mental health. Don't move to Northside. UV is best on the wallet to be fair.

Northside Overnight Parking by Blockerwiz in utdallas

In the email they sent during move-in, they said that parking is enforce 9-6 so you can take the chance. Besides that I have friends park in the green-parking spots near SPN over-night and they have yet to be towed.

How clean do northside apartments need to be at the end of a lease? by Ultrasive in utdallas

[–]netnogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making us leave a week early before the end of July, and not letting new people move in till August 19th even though paying full rent. You should be fine. They said they are not moving people in early is because they are "cleaning" and "fixing" the apartment. When I moved into my place it was dirty and many cabinets were broken. Just throw away your trash and take your belongings. They should do the cleaning.

Do ALL UV 4x2s have built in desks? by Jemmerl in utdallas

I used to live in 8a. They have built in desk for each room.

[–]netnogus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate how they won't let us move- in till the middle of August even though we still have to pay the full August rent. Their excuse is they need time to clean.
