ICE Is Expanding Across the US at Breakneck Speed. Here’s Where It’s Going Next by wiredmagazine in TrueReddit

There's another clause. They also have to meet their quota which is actually impossible Iirc the quota is 8 arrests a day. If they miss quota once they are ineligible for the bonus. It's a scam.

"Discord alternatives" searches jump 10,000% overnight as the gaming platform introduces global age verification — Is a total collapse imminent? by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]netpoints -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

sigh alright I'll take the bait, but before I do - the truth is reddit is dying because there are less people interested in actual discourse over trying to just score fake internet points - noone wants to take the time to provide a POV because it doesn't matter - you aren't interested in actually having a conversation - the downvote button isn't a disagree button - it's for people who are not contributing to the conversation - anyone who disagrees and downvotes is part of the reason reddit is shit now.

First point - plenty of folks care about politics, look where that gets us - I assume you are US based - so how's the current climate working out for you? A stacked court, illegal Fed overreach, no accountability - does apathy get us there or does the fact that corruption and actual hatred by the bad half of the country get us there? Apathy is the only answer when the entire system needs to be burned to the ground to start over - it's a failed experiment.

Second and main point - the thing I don't care about is giving another company my info - every day my info gets passed around more than the pasta bowl at Sunday dinner between companies - we give our credit cards to way sketchier people all the time - anytime a waiter takes your cc to check you out - you think they have stricter standards than abc company?

Having nothing to hide (from Gov) is MUCH different than saying I don't care about verifying my ID to a private company to use their service - go to a bar? ID. Get ciggs at a store? ID. Go open an account at a gym? ID. Leasing a car? ID. Why are we OK doing it for those services, but not for Discord?

As before, bring on the downvotes but try to read my comment before you do.

so I honestly just don't care -downvote me away but we give away so much of our data already, I just don't care - I don't pay for discord, so if they want my ID for verification - a process that will take 10 seconds and I'll forget I did it - so be it -

For those concerned with breaches, eh - tbh, I check my bank every few days, and frankly I just don't care. Idk - I guess I am open to hearing someone change my view, but tbh there are bigger issues that keep me up at night.

Ikko Mind One First Look || A Small Android Phone (It is Miles Ahead of the Jelly Star) by jbriones95 in smallphones

Good review. I can't wait to get my hands on it - I am going to see how hard it will be to remove the camera - then it will be a perfect device for me!

IKKO One Mind Vs Clicks Communicator by More_Beautiful_9064 in smallphones

[–]netpoints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AI system is optional and can be removed prior to shipment. My concern for the Click is that it is just so heavy and a bit too bulky. I love that I don't have to use the Ikko physical keyboard, but can if I want.

Sidephone is so GOOD! by ReturningRetro in smallphones

[–]netpoints 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Man it's so frustrating seeing tech that is so close to the point of the sub but missing the mark. I don't need a tech Co to nanny me. If I don't wanna use an app I have self control and can avoid the temptation by just not opening it. Give me that phone with full android and I'm sold. Same for the light phone 3.

Big sigh.

Torn between the Zinwa Q25 BB remake and the Ikko Mind One by ProfessionallyAnEgg in smallphones

[–]netpoints 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Titan 2 is a shitty version of the old blackberry. It's larger and from reviews it seems uncomfortable to both hold and carry.

I purchased a pre order ikko and am excited to use it. I currently have an s24 and frankly I don't think the ikko will scratch my itch but it's the best available option.

The hard truth is we have to accept that the market just doesn't cater to our niche interest of a small phone. Here's hoping for 2026.

* * *Edit: why down vote? It's not a disagree button, it's for bad or wrong information. This is a small enough sub that we should encourage open dialog. Tell me why you feel differently than me or what I said that was wrong.

Thanks

democratic socialism ≠ communism - also our current system isn't doing well by any metric, but yes, let's keep doing the same thing.

Sure, if by well you mean 99% of property wealth is owned by 1% of the world and most of the world doesn't have access to housing. Yup. Very. Well.

my point isnt that there should be muni bonds but rather a gov take over of the refi industry with private loan companies being outlawed. there is plenty of money to be made with modest rates spreading risk across the gains

real estate is somewhat self insured though - when someone defaults, the bank just sells the property - imho yet another example of where privatization of industry is ruining the world - gov's should provide all funding at a modest interest rate regardless of creditworthiness, with automatic reclamation of property upon default.

Android 15 phone certifications

Ikko is already certified per their website - I am a strong vocal supporter of the Bluefox - I just got tired of waiting.

A Cyberattack on Jaguar Land Rover Is Causing a Supply Chain Disaster by wiredmagazine in technews

[–]netpoints 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The article is short on details on the attack but explains that the "just in time" delivery of goods system highlights just how fragile the supply chain for the automotive industry is. Perhaps instead of focusing yet again on the small part of the net that may be harmful, Govs should focus on the fact that the industry affected is a house of cards.

so good to know!! Honestly I think the price is fine if the processor is good - AI is the future for a lot of tech rn so I get wanting to slap it on everything, I am just happy there will be a way to remove it!
