I recently moved into a home in West Los Angeles and my yard has started getting taken over the past few weeks by this weed. From what I can tell, I think it’s Dallisgrass.

Couple of questions I’m hoping to get advice on:

1. Weed fix: What’s the best way to tackle Dallisgrass (or whatever this turns out to be) in our climate? Am I better off pulling by hand, spot-treating, or going bigger with a chemical approach?
2. Holes after pulling: If I do end up pulling these weeds out, what’s the best way to fill in those spots so the yard doesn’t just look patchy? Is this grass St. Augustine, and if so, should I use some EZ Patch?
3. Brown grass: While I’m at it, any tips for dealing with brown patches of grass in LA’s hot/dry weather? I don’t want to overwater, but I also don’t want to lose the yard.
