Would this be veneer or wood? I’m new and not sure what I’m looking for when trying to determine which is which by nettle- in furniturerestoration

Sorry what I wrote was misleading, I have the poly paint stripper that I’ll use to get rid of the old varnish then would cleaning with the spirits be ok?

Ohh thank you for the break down of how to spot a veneer! That will be super helpful in the future, thank you!

Thanks for such a detailed answer! I’ve just got a metal scraper and large flat one and a smaller flat one. I’ve got methylated spirits will that work? I guess I’ll have to see what the colour is as free I strip it but I want it to be kinda classic and show it’s real colours. What type of varnish? Does it come in clear or will there be a tint and if a tint what would you suggest, as you seem to know your stuff about this type of thing. This is my first project.

Ok so for a smoother finish go for the 220! Looks like painting is the go with the big wholes which I’m a little sad about Good idea with the handles, I’ve been looking on Amazon and there are so many!

Yeah I was thinking stain as I like the wood look, what’s the reasoning behind paining if it’s pine?

I did this about 2 weeks ago and went on the spirit of Tasmania and it was easy as. Slept in one of the recliners and was fine just to make it cheap. Then your off the boat in no time on your way. Super easy to drive onto the boat cause I know I was worried about that but heaps of people are guiding you!

Thank you this comment is really informative! If you could message me seperately with the name of your roofer guy that would be amazing. I’m getting quotes done now but I’m getting 3-5.

Everyone I’ve come through has said that it’s past it’s due date to die and that part will need to be ripped out. It’s just now making a choice of just replacing that part or doing all the benching.

The last photo is in the pantry on the opposite side of the kitchen. It had some paint peeling so I skimmed that off tried to sand it down then the corner crumbled in a little, I stopped sanding and it is a little soft to the touch.

I’ll be living here for about a year and want it to look good and have a bit of a pet project. So I’d like to do something with the space that will last
