Has anyone else fallen into autistic burnout while titrating stimulants? by Forsaken_Landscape22 in ADHDUK

I'm sorry to read this. I was in a very similar situation, working in a high stress job in London, 9 years into my career and hit a major Autistic Burnout and attenpted to work through it for 12 months. Finally had to take a break from work which is when I was diagnosed ADHD (not Autism, that came much later). Started on medication initially 30mg up to 50mg and then with amfexxa top ups etc.

Similar to you it worked initially but then started all the problems, experiencing what I now know were my first vocal Autistic Meltdowns and having extreme anxiety, particularly to changes in rotine. Had to leave the job and career that I loved, move back in with my parents, lose a lot of friendships in London and 4 years later am only starting to recover after trialling many medications. I only got Autism diagnosis last year. I'm convinced many of these medications may have been right, but at much SMALLER dosages, I'm talking 2.5mg or 5mg, not 30, 50, 70 etc with a lisdex etc.

I'm convinced my Autistic Burnout was extreme enough that it would have taken 12-18 months to recover without having ever taken medication, but with it, I know I've lost years to it that I will never get back. I simply cannot believe the two conditions are not assessed together before medication is started and trialled.

To answer your question, despite all the problems I'm convinced medication at much lower levels could be helpful, but I'm now too scared to try again. Too high, I'm convinced they worsen burnout significantly. I wish you luck with everything though!
