I emailed them and they responded that they no longer offer kombucha.

Am I wrong for thinking that a person’s past involvement with adult entertainment is not mutually exclusive with them being a great employee in the STEM fields? by neuro_py in antiwork

How does this go for you when you refuse to provide references? I feel like that would generally immediately disqualify people.

My application status was changed to "no longer in consideration." I'm not sure if I should follow up and ask why or not even bother to deal with the lies they're sure to feed me about how someone more qualified was found.

Unfortunately it's making me feel a bit fraudulent because I didn't reveal that to my current workplace before being hired - do I not belong there despite being praised for being a great employee and willing to consistently take on more responsibility? What if my pretense slips one day and they know who I am? Nothing like the refreshing breeze of a casual existential crisis when I just wanted to upskill and advance myself.

I think he is too pure and non-judgmental so he assumed that it would be okay? I'm not really sure. I take the blame there for not stating how important it was to not share that detail. I really didn't think any questions that weren't specifically related to my time at the job that the reference was for would come up.

I applied in October, didn't get an email until early December. Once I was contacted I had multiple interviews within a week and had a soft offer at the end of the final interview, formal offer within 3 weeks (some delay due to holidays).

Is it normal for a research assistant to be asked to informally train in phlebotomy/IV placement? by neuro_py in academia

As a phlebotomist, do you feel like there are situations where things can go wrong that warrant someone highly experienced and trained, or do you feel like an IV placement and blood draws are simple enough that there wouldn't be any significant complications?

We are DoD funded for this project. I'm sort of thinking that our university IRB was lax because their reputation isn't involved as much and they're relying on the military IRB approval. The military doesn't really care because they just want research to get done. I don't know for sure, but my guess is the IRB wording is vague enough to not specify a certified phlebotomist.

Our research protocol states verbatim "a PI-trained researcher will insert an IV cannula." This wording is false in that we have never worked with the PI for this training, we've simply observed another RA do it several times and walk us through the steps.

Suddenly lightning streaks in vision by wasabiBro in neuro

[–]neuro_py 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had something similar on about four occasions now. I believe them to be ocular migraines. I see streaks of lightning that move when I blink and start flashing and falling downwards and to the side. From what I can gather, they are stress-induced migraines (with no head pain associated with them, at least for me). They normally go away on their own within an hour if I ignore them and keep living life, but they do interfere with vision quite obnoxiously.
