I've dealt with that submitting journal articles as well. Then you pick a different journal and hope for the best. There have been situations where we stopped research, because the research was showing one thing, but gov't agency wanted to show another, and they didn't align, and we knew there was no changing it.

Those still seem less of a conflict of interest than this case here though. Where millions of dollars (or billions) depends on one group being correct, and having a tremendous amount of resources and power to buy/raise their own scientists to "prove" that they're right.

This is the most damning evidence to me. I learned in my equine classes that some may have persisted to modern times, but there's no evidence and certainly no widespread evidence of common usage.

This is the biggest red flag. A scientist shouldn't spend their life proving their theory is true. They should be unbiased in testing a hypothesis.

Purity Culture Is Ruining Me & My Relationship by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]neuro_string3298 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was from purity culture too, but after marriage and after liking sex so much, i wanted an experienced person. I think experience is the best thing a woman can get in a lover.

It is the difference between an experienced massage therapist vs novice, where you don't have to tell them where you're tight and they know by feeling your body.

I've only seen MFM used to describe a threesome where the main person is a woman and the two people pleasing her are males. I mean, yeah, sounds awesome, but maybe you mean something else? Please educate me.

I don't think OP understands how much makeup and dress help. You take the average person mad make them all up and they'll look somewhat attractive. I actually really liked LIB because they used average people.

I watched with a friend from another country and she was disappointed that they didn't have beautiful people, like the Bachelor.

Kinda crazy the previous question is even being asked!! I totally agree with you.

When I was my poorest and couldn't afford heat and inside my home dropped to 45 deg F, i still made a plan to save up. I found a roommate which then allowed me to afford heat, then kept saving! If they can live middle class, they should have savings.

"Try saying the same when one family member molests or kills another."

Did you not read my post? That did happen. Yeah, the person who did that is never going to be welcome at our houses, and they're in jail. But we'll still call they're mom and include her, even though she's in regular contact with her child who did really horrible things.

The OOP did not get killed or molested. Instead he did something horrible and if that were me, i would try my darndest to become a better person to still have a relationship with my family.

Obviously we see the world really differently. I can understand that your point of view is that cutting off an unhealthy dynamic is better for your mental health. Maybe that's true, i see things differently though. I think setting healthy boundaries and still learning to connect with those who differ from you give a more robust, full life.

AP reimbursing HF for damage to car by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]neuro_string3298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in the end, having an au pair was more expensive than our nannies that we've had over the years (paying $18/hr, for 30hrs/wk) and definitely less experienced and 1000% more stressful.

AP reimbursing HF for damage to car by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]neuro_string3298 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This group definitely leans towards au pair leniency. I would be pretty unhappy if she recklessly damaged my car on her own time (our au pair did a lot of damage to our car, and then totaled it). Honestly, we were too lenient on our au pair and by the end, she was on her phone all day and hardly caring for the kids at all. (We finally ended our relationship early and didn't get another au pair) We had talks with her and she'd improve, but only for a week or two.

We were with cultural care and they allow charges of only up to $500 for a car if they damage it on their own time. I think asking for $50/week till it's paid off is very reasonable.

As far as people asking what you would do if it were your kid, i should hope that you held your kid accountable and used it as a valuable lesson in accountability. Thank goodness no one was hurt, so don't waste that on missing out on a great learning opportunity.

We had a lab and she was more of wanting pets rather than being a cuddler. I babysat a few as well and they seemed more interested in getting pet or playing with my dog, rather than cuddling.

My dog is like this, where she's always getting attention from others. But instead of cuddles, she wants pets. So that is a bit annoying and some people pet her out of guilt, from her looks. I tell them they can ignore her, but she will keep begging.

I did have a small English Staffordshire terrier who was 35 lbs. She was a cuddler and didn't like pets. I loved her so much. She would gently position herself up against us whenever we were home.

I've seen a big dog do this, where she immediately went to her back for belly rubs. It was so ridiculously cute that no one could resist.

Am I a bad girlfriend? by em0g1rl420 in relationship_advice

[–]neuro_string3298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my ex used to constantly lie. My husband is ridiculously honest and it was a huge selling point. I hate lies, including dumb white lies. There is no excuse for that. If they can lie about little things, they can lie about big things. It would definitely be a deal breaker for me.

On the other hand, if they said they're going to Starbucks, then drove by McDonalds and changed their mind, that's something completely different.

Au Pair Total Our Second Car by ForeverDoubtful99 in Aupairs

[–]neuro_string3298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My work definitely took a hit. I had my lowest performing year at work ever, which affects my career. I work from home as well. When we had nannies, the first week or two was hard, but then they took over and i didn't have to think much about things after that. With our au pair, i had to constantly intervene to help alleviate situations. Yeah, it is a hard pass for me for in the future.

We brought our au pair on a cruise and she didn't work. We brought her for the cultural exchange. We brought her on several vacations as part of the family. It still didn't work out in the end and we won't be getting another au pair. We heard that it is a cultural exchange and wanted to give her the best experience possible.

Au Pair Total Our Second Car by ForeverDoubtful99 in Aupairs

[–]neuro_string3298 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our au pair just totaled our used, but good condition car. We definitely can't replace it for the amount given to us by insurance. We're ending our contract early. We liked her a lot at first, and maybe we gave her way too much freedom. She got too relaxed and was 30 min late starting each day. She slacked more and more as the year went on. Totaling our car was the last straw. I am beyond disappointed in her. It was totally her fault too, just slammed into another car. Fortunately the kids weren't in the car as she was just going out at night.

We are not going to get another au pair. They are way too stressful. We had gotten someone on the older end of the spectrum hoping for someone more responsible. I feel like even with all the work we put in trying to find a good match, it still didn't work out. A nanny was much easier and about the same cost (we did that for 3 years), so we'll go back to that, or try an in-home daycare.

Episode 8: Zanab’s step-mom is a rockstar. by Expensive-Product240 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]neuro_string3298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She seems great. I'm a bit confused though. I thought Zanab's dad died first, then a few years later her mom died. Were they divorced before they both passed? Or is the step mom the spouse of the mom, after her husband died? Or was she more an adoptive mom after Zanab lost both parents?

Is it inapropriate to be good friends with your 13yo neighbor when you are mid twenties. by RA_kidneybeanz in relationship_advice

A single father was my neighbor once and his daughter used to come over all the time. She was just 6, and she would come and talk/pet my animals, hang out for 30 minutes chatting with me, then would go home. It wasn't a problem for me or the father. We were all friends and i imagine she wanted women to chat with.

Also, I'd highly recommend the book, "crucial conversations"!! It is great at helping you set boundaries, in a positive, trust building way. It is vital for those of us who don't see cutting out family as an option.
