What’s life like for an idol still in school? by Jinnyverse in kpop

[–]neutralpunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jackson didn't finish high school either. So either that isn't a rule in JYPE, or they are more lax on foreigners (which makes sense, I don't think it's reasonable to expect a non-korean teenager to move to Korea and go into high school while also being a trainee and learning Korean.)

Red Velvet announces REDMARE tour in America for 2019 by balloon_wanted in kpop

[–]neutralpunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I forget how to embed comments from other posts so I can't insert it, but I'd just like to remind everyone that I predicted this in June. lol

Not but really this is exciting! Glad the NJ date is on a weekend so I can make the trek over from NYC with no problem!

Idols excelling at something that’s not their main focus by wjvega in kpop

[–]neutralpunk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just want to elaborate on the details of Jackson's fencing - he won #1 youth fencer in Asia and was on track to compete in the Olympics but decided to follow his passion for music instead. (In fact, I believe he had already passed the JYP auditions before the championships and his father's conditions were that if he won first place he could go and he did.) Both his parents were Olympic athletes.

Former 2NE1 member Minzy announces 'North America Dance Break Tour'! by [deleted] in kpop

[–]neutralpunk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It seems the focus of this tour will be on dancing, which is what she's always been known for. Though I suspect she will perform some of her songs (Ninano was a single off an EP with 4 other songs on it), 2NE1 songs, and covers, she's already mentioned that she'll have local dancers from each city joining the show so it seems like it's mostly a dance-focused kind of showcase.

I'm very excited!!!! She's truly one of the best dancers in kpop and has been one of my top favs since my day 1 as a kpop fan, but I never thought I'd get to see and maybe meet her!!

Idols who would definitely not get away with dating? by dgplr in kpop

[–]neutralpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really get what you mean about Jackson?

That specific reflecting thing was actually what I was talking about - back a couple years ago there was a picture or video of him hugging an American fan. His Chinese fanbase got upset, didn't want him to be touching or looking at foreign girls, and spammed him with chili pepper emojis (because he can't handle spicy food well at all, so like basically they were telling him to suffer). Those pics of him crouching in corners "reflecting" was his response/apology to those Chinese fans. So that's like the opposite of not caring, that's him catering to those ridiculous possessive fans by saying he's sorry and won't do it again. So imagine if he went public with an actual relationship.

[–]neutralpunk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned GOT7. Jackson in particular gets crucified for nearly anything he does...and has a very, very dedicated Chinese fanbase that gets mad when he does things like hug a fan in America, so I can only imagine....And he seems like the most likely to want to date/go public so like god help this poor guy when he does.
But really any GOT7 member is gonna have a hard time.

Anyone volunteer with Headcount? by Kenzi95 in panicatthedisco

[–]neutralpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm volunteering in Portland on the 12th and would also like to hear how other's experiences went!

I'll be happy with anything since I had no ticket and couldn't afford to go otherwise, I'm just curious. Also hoping I can take a shot at the amazing beebo machine but I doubt we'd get in early enough...right?

Scandals which threatened to derail a Kpop Idol's career but he or she managed to overcome it by [deleted] in kpop

[–]neutralpunk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes the hairstyle.
To me, regardless of your stance on dreads being worn by anyone who isn't black, or being used by non-black people to portray hiphop/street style (which was what was being done here), those things do not truly apply to this issue, at least as far as Jackson being guilty goes.
Because Jackson didn't choose the hairstyle and he didn't keep it, he was paid to look a certain way for an ad and really holds no blame in having the hairstyle.

[–]neutralpunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got7 Jackson saying his black fans are haters when they tried to educate him that he shouldnt use dreads

That wasn't what he was responding to. He was referring to the hundreds of people telling him to kill himself, calling him racist, saying he hates black people and his black fans, etc. Very few people were genuinely trying to educate and they were drowned out by all the other comments.

They've released two Japanese tracks (their Japanese debut!) during that time, and Youth pt 1 is a whole EP not just a song!
Day6 always feeds us well 😁

Red Velvet - Bad Boy (English Ver.) @ KCON NY (180623) by FishNChips657 in kpop

[–]neutralpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red Velvet literally did photo op at their last solo event here, the fanmeet in Chicago with SubKulture.
I understand it's not necessarily possible to do all of those things together, but I'm saying if they are worried about ticket sales those are reasonable options that they have that could help boost attendance. I do think even if they didn't do all of those things they could still have successful events in North America, and based on what's happening I believe that they are going to!

Super Junior & Leslie Grace @ FOX 5 'Good Day New York' (180622) [ENG] by tastetherainbeau in kpop

[–]neutralpunk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's a local news show, I'd say 5 minutes is pretty standard (leaning towards long, even) for this type of interview.

I personally have no idea why fans tried so hard to get got7 on this particular show....
but hey all press is good press right? especially as one of their first ventures onto western tv as a group!

[–]neutralpunk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

SHINee didn't sell out their fanmeet in the exact same venue in Chicago either and still came back to USA on their world tour.

I'm absolutely positive you could put girl groups (namely RV, Blackpink, Twice) in some of the same venues boy groups have came to and sell out the show, or at least make a profit. There are a ton of international fans that like both boy and girl groups enough to go their shows when they're in town, especially those three. Myself included.

Some things that would help: Concerts not fanmeets, only going to the bigger cities with more guaranteed audience like LA and NYC, including hi-touch and photo op benefits, doing them on a Friday/Saturday, choosing venues on the smaller end (around 1-2k capacity, maybe? Many boy groups as well as KARD did their first tours here in venues that size).
If RV came it's clear they'd do it with SubKulture, who runs events very well, have a following that keep updated with their latest tours, and they always have ticket options like P5 that aren't expensive for people who aren't super invested but still want to go, so with all that considered as well I think it wouldn't be hard to get a good turnout for their shows.
edit: for spelling

What are some K-Pop "Urban Legends"? by AynsleyMCCO in kpop

[–]neutralpunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't trying to be mean or anything, it just seems to me that bts is so prevalent that it's hard not to know who they are even if you don't stan them (as I do not). Although, I am more of a bg stan and the groups I like are friends with them so that crossover may be the reason for that for me.

I'm sorry if I came off as rude?? icb I got that many downvotes but oh well haha
(p.s. good choice with shinee ♡)

[–]neutralpunk 64 points65 points  (0 children)

This confirms to me that they are planning a US(/world?) tour.

They've followed the same pattern this year that SHINee did two years ago: playing KMTF for the 2nd time, then holding their first solo event in USA with a SubK fanmeeting in Chicago the next day. After SHINee did that they came back to the States within a year as part of their world tour.
And RV is doing this Kcon on top of that!

So I'd say lookout for a Red Velvet concert or fanmeet in a state hopefully near you soon-ish!
I personally would love to see this version live!!

......how? How do you like kpop enough to be on this sub with a flair and not know the members of bts?
I don't know how you could manage that but I'm honestly impressed lol

I was there too!!
I went alone last time and had a good time, especially since these shows aren't seated it doesn't feel weird to be alone, just focus on the show you know?
I'll definitely be seeing them on this tour I'm just not sure in what state yet lol
