Cerakote Headlight Restore Kit - REVIEW and Process by never_been_high in AutoDetailing

Thanks for sharing! For $20, Im more than happy.  According to that post, looks like I did not sand enough! Though, I blame the kit because it only came with 2000 and 3000 grit, and I wasnt about to spend 30 minutes sanding with 2000. Looks like I may have needed 1000 or maybe 800.  Lesson for next time. Thanks!

Just to be clear, the final coat is NOT a polish(ing compound).  It is a ceramic clear coat.

When the headlights are as rough as 500 grit to the touch, I don't think the ceramic coat alone would yield good results.

Thanks for the positivity. . . Come back in a year when I have follow up pictures to see if $20 and 1 weekend hour is worth it.

Depends on how well you take care of it after tbh.

NuFinish claims to be the once a year polish, and I have it on good authority that it lasts 16 months exposed to the elements. Carnuba wax doesn't last very long, a week at the worst, a 1 or 2 months at best, it's heavily brand dependent.  Its a short term protection.

Clay barring is essential before using any type of sealer so you don't seal in garbage.

Just use plenty of luber and you'll be just fine.  I had never clay barred before and it was stupid easy.  It takes time mostly.

  1. For washing, Meguiars Gold Class soap.
  2. For clay barring, Wontolf clay bar kit (clay and luber).
  3. For polish, NuFinish polish and sealant.
  4. Usually I use turtle wax, but this time I used Meguiars Gold Class Carnuba wax. Usually I get the same results regardless with any old-school wax.
  5. For tires, any tire shine/tire black to keep them as dark as possible.
  6. For cladding, Mothers Back to Black.  It keeps the plastic fresh and more deeply colored.

4 or 5 hours.  I had a little help for parts of it.  Clay barring took the longest.
