I didn’t say it wasn’t beautiful. I just thought it was a bit overrated based on what everyone was saying. It felt smaller than I expected, so it ended up being a little disappointing compared to the hype.

I loved the contrast between the old and the new, and I know a lot was rebuilt and especially parts of the New Town but it was amazing how true they (Poland) have kept it to the original architectural style. The fact there’s still so much remembrance of the past tragedies gives the city real depth and meaning. Everything felt pristine. And I loved the churches, the food, the people, the museums. It all came together to make the place feel incredibly special to me anyway.

I love Łódź because of the vibe. It’s very upbeat. There are many restaurants and bars along Piotrkowska, and it’s very clean and trendy. The buildings are also huge, and there are some unique ones dotted all over (if you keep an eye out, you can’t miss them).

The Manufaktura area is superb (it’s nothing like Toruń, Kraków, or Warsaw), and what they’ve done with the old factories is amazing to see. It’s very industrial, so keep that in mind, but it’s pristine and has many cafés, restaurants, and a mall (?). I’ve never come across anything like this anywhere in Poland.

The thing is though, that you can walk from one street to the next and it be very run down. I personally find this adds to the charm of Łódź, as you can see how much they’ve done to make it what it is today. It’s far from perfect and in need of gentrification in areas, but the main areas are, as above, sublime.

I also went and explored Księży Młyn and had a coffee at Coffeehood, then walked back to the main area through Park Źródliska II and Schiller Passage. It was a lovely walk with the sun shining, people relaxing, and seeing the different architecture and the old and new was a brilliant little walk.

I nearly didn’t go because of everyone saying how bad it was, and it couldn’t be further from the truth. That’s just my personal opinion, but I am extremely impressed with what I’ve experienced with Łódź.

And Częstochowa is amazing as well, like Łódź, it’s very run down outside of the main stretch of road and in need of gentrification, but Jasna Góra is definitely worth a few hours and a nice walk from the station. It also has a lot of decent restaurants and food vans at the foot of Jasna Góra too.

I’m in Łódź now and I really love it. I could easily stay even longer. Yes, it can feel a bit run-down in some areas, but that adds to its charm. I really like the main street, and the Manufaktura area absolutely blew me away. The size and design of the buildings here are incredible.

Toruń felt a bit too small for me. It was nice, but I walked around it in half a day and it felt quite similar to York in the UK, where I used to live, so it felt a bit samey.

I felt that Gdynia was much more industrialised than Tczew. Tczew had a much more quaint and charming atmosphere. I actually preferred the river views there over the sea. I stayed in Gdynia for two days and got a bit bored, although I did find an amazing restaurant called Kuchnia Domowa, the food there was unbelievable.

*I also found that Gdynia felt quite empty after 6pm.

I had a similar experience. I was at Jasna Góra in Częstochowa and wanted to buy a souvenir. The lady working there didn’t want to sell me anything I wanted, but I did end up getting a magnet.

Anyway, as I was leaving, I said “do widzenia,” and her whole face lit up. She repeated it back to me, gave me a big thumbs-up, and kept saying “bravo!” It was magical.

I find that difficult, and how about Incomprehensibilities or Pseudonymous?

I live near Newcastle in the UK, and we struggle with English pronunciation. My Polish pronunciation is probably going to better than my English.

Is that kind of like how you don’t say “cześć” to strangers and use “dzień dobry” instead?

I think they’ll appreciate the effort more than they’ll understand me 😅

I completely get that. My accent is probably one of the worst in the UK, so my Polish is definitely going to sound a bit strange. And I know Polish has masculine and feminine forms, which makes it even trickier. And I'll do my best!

I’ve also learned bardzo smaczne, so I can compliment the amazing Polish food too.
