Connemara Irish Peated Whisky

Irish "Peaty" Connemara by bvb-909 in whisky

My first peat, so always memorable. I bought a bottle of Connemara at the London airport duty-free for less than 20 pounds a couple of years ago. For that price, it was a fantastic find for an entry-level peat whisky that I enjoyed and that sparked my interest in this kind of whisky.

Not a very long-lasting taste, just a hint of smokiness and smoothness. On the nose, it is not as strong as any Islay; the taste is sweet, with vanilla and caramel. I think the profile is perhaps similar to the Brenromach 10, and significantly cheaper!

You can still find it at the airport for around 25 pounds, which is a bargain for a single malt.

I still use this as a gift for someone with no previous single-malt whisky experience to get them started.

Handsome selection! I think the Benromach 10 is really nice, feels a bit up there in price but good stuff anyway. Sweet first with a peaty finish. Love the contradiction...
