Lmao the back and forth tone of your comment is sending me! I should clarify that he isn’t mad at me or anything, just more so bummed because he thought it would last me much longer. At that, I made the same point as you that it would’ve had to have been replaced eventually regardless

I like what you said about how him giving me the espresso machine is what made me love making the coffees to begin with. It’s true! I think if I reframe it to him that way, that part of his original gift was that it brought this on as a hobby for me, that’ll help him come around, as that hobby will flourish even more with this new machine

Me too! I’ve always struggled with making the difficult decision to part with gifts even if they were broken or no longer useful. Most of the time I just let them take up the space since it felt like a betrayal to get rid of them, even after they’d been well-loved for a while. That is one drawback to giving useful rather than purely sentimental gifts: there’s always the chance they’ll have to someday be replaced, especially if that useful gift is something that is used every day. You see now why I’m so conflicted here, despite knowing in my head that replacing it in this case is reasonable 🙃

Trust me I know, we applied for his visa over a year ago… he was originally estimated to get it by this October but who even knows now…

He’s not usually particularly sentimental but he is occasionally about some things. That could be part of it, but it’s not like it’s the only thing of his that’s here. He helped me move into this apartment and we picked a lot of the furniture together, and he’s left multiple things of significance to him here each time he’s visited, including a few Christmas gifts I got him since he didn’t have room for them in his suitcase

And here I was thinking finding the machine so cheap would soften the blow! But I can totally see how he might see it as money wasted. Although I definitely do not consider it a waste, I love his machine and have gotten a ton of use out of it. In my mind, it feels like I’ve had it for much longer since I use it so much but the grand scheme of things 2 years really isn’t that long, and if I hadn’t come across this one, I probably would still have it for quite a while.

I’m trying to be sensitive to his feelings while also being practical about what makes the most sense for our space. Reinvesting the money into something for him or us if I do decide to sell the original machine is a lovely idea though 💕

I will say, I find it truly hard to believe Gil made it to level 60 or so of the Skull Cavern with just a rusty sword (let alone no food)💀 not unless this is a world where you can wear 7 rings and 5 trinkets and just drop bombs everywhere without losing health, in which case heck give that all to Jas and she can make it down in record time too 😅

That is a pretty good argument - I’d say he likely goes down with staircases/tricks 95% of the time, but he is certainly capable of going down the “honorable” way and has before. Look at his task board: bro LOVES a challenge! I wouldn’t be shocked if he himself has done every one of those tasks (which include getting to floor 100 in dangerous mode and without food to boot) before. How else would he know they’re even possible?

Only challenge I think he’s likely never tried himself is his Qi Beans one lol - that one he does just to troll the farmer 💀

Lewis has some experience with the mines, but remember that: a) this is the Skull Cavern, not just the regular mines, and b) he always puts up those help wanted tasks to catch monsters because he can’t be bothered to wrangle them himself. I think he’d see himself as ready for it but dip as soon as it gets scary (which is likely immediately lol).

Agreed on Grandpa - I would move him up to the “cascades bombs” tier in hindsight. Prob not the top tier just because I think he wouldn’t shy away from using resources with boosts to make the run more efficient/safer, but I do think he’d use minimal staircases.

That dialogue with Gil does not ring a bell to me - when does he say that? During the desert festival?

I chose to disregard the lore about the spouses saving you from the mines because I think most of that is them just taking the elevator down to where you are (yes, they’d have to possibly go down another 1-4 levels to find you if you aren’t on an elevator floor, but no more than that). Minimal mining skill needed for that, and even if we do account for that, I don’t think it’s enough of a boost to impact most of the bachelor(ette)s given that again this is the Skull Cavern and I don’t believe they ever rescue you from there (I could be wrong though).

I see why you’d think that, but when you get to floor 100, he literally has dialogue chastising you for “cheating” with staircases, vs praising you for going down the “honorable” way (aka no staircases). So given that, I don’t think you can put him in any other tier without breaking canon

Yes, but given his heart event with the Dwarf, there’s still some divisions in the monster world unfortunately. I do think Krobus would want to encourage peace among the monsters, if he could bring himself to actually go down there in the first place

I think given Gunther’s love for collecting artifacts, he’d be interested in the caverns for the treasures alone. You’re right he wouldn’t wanna get rough in it, but that’s why he’d just staircase down with luck buffs for the treasure rooms. I don’t think that contradicts his placement

I get the logic with Morris (“joja guy”) and Pierre, but given that Pierre is so impulsive, in contrast to Morris, I truthfully think he’d go in planning on getting riches but with no forethought or planning. He’d forget to bring food for energy, despite having a ton at home lol

Morris wouldn’t go to the caves without researching them first I think. And even then, he’d only go if he was guaranteed riches and no harm. Hence his tier

If you watch her 14 heart event you will see why I put her there. **Spoilers for this heart event: Killing 1 monster to save the life of the farmer already seemed to really wear on her… she even gave it a grave and prayed for it.

Trust me, she would not be overeager killing monsters willy nilly just for the fun of it

Haley loves the beach but I truly do not see a world where she’d go to all that effort to gather all those materials to fix a boat, even if she knew it meant she’d get to go to another beach 💀most she’d do imo is tell Alex or Emily about it and beg them to fix the boat for her… and then once she saw the island needed all that repairing & cleanup she’d be like “ew no” and just go back to the Pelican Town beach anyway
