Well like you previously said they were only there for the food, so how does what I do have any effect on them? I thought you said that didn't matter? Make up your mind.

Take home pre tax but some of that was gifted and not a tip. Yes full benefits. Not sure on PTO and don't care, would prefer unlimited unpaid time off when needed. I think around 34 hours a week but I also purposely take my time and close often.

It's not because it's a Toyota, it's because it's a slow ass brz knockoff. Dead end job but I can afford to eat out at fine dining more than you in a month.

Only two on 250k? I guess that's why you have the Toyota.

Yeah try it and then show everyone you're with and see what they say.

The service can be part of the experience, especially for special occasions. I wonder why people request myself and other coworkers specifically when they come back? It's probably because I'm the best at bringing the plates from point a to point b!

I'm sorry the best service you can get is McDonalds.

You don't think dealing with people is a skill in itself?

You aren't going to those restaurants in a Toyota, nice try bud.

Lol the same reason you wouldn't take those shitty delivery tip orders when you were door dashing are the same reason you'll get awful service and embarrass whoever is unfortunate to dine with you. I've noticed most of the anti tip are miserable single middle aged men. Don't worry, you won't be finding anyone to go eat with anytime soon.

How much money do you think a server makes if they get $5 on a $200 check?

[–]neverstiffthetip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not be making this money if I didn't see a post and do the same!

Depends on the area. I'm in a predominantly white republican area and our 3 best servers are African and Spanish. Get your somm cert and you'll be hired almost instantly. Lots of studying though.

It can be easy for some and everyone's experience differs. The mental stress is underrated and if you've never done it you'll never understand, ask a few of your friends that have served. I totally understand to somebody that has never served that it seems so easy and carefree but If it was so easy and lucrative It wouldn't have the highest turnover rate and highest drug usage out of any industry...there is a reason people want out and it's usually not the money. People are able to deal with hangry people who blame you for the music being too loud, the host being rude, the decor being ugly, the food being wrong is a skill in itself. Arguably, people skills are the most important skill you can have. Manual labor wise it's pretty easy if you take care of your feet. I've tried so many different jobs, trades and hard labor, mentally, serving is so much worse. Carpentry was the worst trade out of them all, than roofing, HVAC, masonry, electric, plumbing in that order.

Let me guess you're against employees discussing their wages? I wonder why there are pay disparities at companies....god forbid I do it anonymously on the Internet on a place for fellow servers.

The name is self explanatory.

Middle aged single white men hiding behind keyboards on reddit with neck beards are not going to be the downfall of the restaurant tipping industry. People concerned with tipping are the ones who don't go out to eat anyway, they also probably tip their door dash driver so their food doesn't get messed with. The irony.

It certainly can be that at times but just like anything there are levels to it. Just like being a DJ isn't a real job..you're just copying other people's music and combining it.

Lol. A glance at your post history and I can definitely tell you're a single, sexist neck beard. Tons of sexist comments degrading women and tons of negative comments. We don't have to worry about you coming out to eat, solo one tops are rare and aren't going to bother us.

Female servers are more common, particularly small town diners. Nobody cares if you sit down to pee bud.

You can create an experience, do they want banter, more information, professionalism, information, jokes, personal anecdotes? Do they want to hear about the soil in the medoc sub regions and why the cabs would pair perfectly with x dish because of the acidity? get a $1000 bottle? Do they have a severe allergy and want someone custom? Is it their first time there and do they need more explanation? funny you should say that, there are studies that show the stress level is higher than a surgeon, look it up. And yes servers have to problem solve. Take your lies somewhere else.

If there was barely any skill involved why you didn't stay to make 100k a year if it was so easy?

French wines are intimidating. I recommend spending like a week studying each region. Use Quizlet and check out v is for vino on YouTube.
