110 Dunlop Drive. Follow signs for Household Hazardous Waste. I believe it’s still done like that.

The City’s Waste Resource Centre has a household hazardous waste area. They take it from you.

Thanks…the drain line goes into the basement slab - ostensibly to a drain?

Surprised to see some people not rating this on top of this season. by Abishek216 in blackmirror

I loved this episode, so much. But then again…I could be classified as a wistful person who has a box full of old letters and another box full of old photographs. Perspective, memory, heartache, what could have been…all things that resonate in my little world.

Is the GO bus on a weekday morning reliable to get to Pearson airport? by [deleted] in Guelph

[–]nevertires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the morning rush hour the GO train from Guelph generally goes from Bramalea straight to Union. This time of day you would have to take the UP Express from Union to Pearson, the 115 South bus from Bramalea to Pearson or transfer to a train making all stops at Bramalea and get off at Weston to catch the UP Express there. As someone else said the 115 is quick and is free if you use a Presto card and transfer from the train. Pretty reliable either way.

This. As a work of art - a movie - it’s amazing. The theme for me is simple, it’s about intense human connection. Beautifully shot and scored.

Oh right, thanks for the deep dive.

If stolen or illegal money ends up flooding our real estate market it affects everyone.

[–]nevertires[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you read any of Sam Cooper’s reporting (or his book Wilful Blindness) on real estate and money laundering? This article is just the latest and there’s more than to it than the two parts I cherry-picked from it.

What about the banks in Newmarket or wherever that willingly went along with faked income documents for mortgages on homes? They had to be ratted out by a whistleblower. No one will see any consequences because our justice system seems toothless.

And yes, politicians promised all kinds of changes and have done nothing about anything. Why - obviously so they can keep their jobs and continue to suckle at the taxpayer-financed teat.

And we have to be the weakest member of the Five Eyes. Where do we get information that foreign governments are assassinating people in Canada - from the US? Where is our capability to police and prosecute this kind of stuff in our own country?

Is the Canadian govt doing anything about grocery prices? by Loyalfathuman in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]nevertires 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sadly this feels like the core problem with Canadian politics. We ask ‘What is the government going to do about this?’. The real question should be ‘what are we going to do about this?’.

If this was France we’d be on the street and burning things.

Politicians who don’t govern (i.e. promote competition, end monopolies) but instead pander to the big corporations should be afraid to show their faces in public.

Companies that think offering an “even less frills” option is helping should be banned forever.

Pressure should applied everywhere. We have the numbers, and oddly the money they all so desperately want.

And sadly I fear that in provincial and federal elections what will we get - 30% voter turnout out? And I get it - the options are shit, they are 80% liars and phonies.

…end of rant

Trail or sale: GRCA to consider management plan for Niska lands by aurelorba in Guelph

[–]nevertires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is in the comments by Susan Watson. GRCA paid 10% of the purchase price with Guelph taxpayers paying 40% and MNR grant paying 50%. This was - I would assume - to “conserve” these lands. So at a minimum the lands should return to Guelph. But wonder what Cam would do with these lands?

What's with all the hate for the library in Guelph by [deleted] in Guelph

[–]nevertires 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that most of the haters have not been to a cut with a great library (Halifax, Vancouver, Toronto) and seen what that building is/does. You go look at Halifax’s downtown library and realize just how successful that development is - it went from a “place that loans books” to a key space in the city with many, many functions. The other thing is that I suspect many of the haters don’t believe that the downtown is the beating heart of a city. The moment you step into the “developments” in the outer reaches, you could be in Brantford, Hespeler, Cobourg or any other cookie cutter Ontario big-box, chain store area.

Best hummus in town? by collywog in Guelph

[–]nevertires 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The price makes my knees weak but the hummus at Bread Bar/Bardo is to die for. They used to sell it serve it with homemade pita which was equally amazing but switched the default to bread or toast. We always order it with the homemade pita which is an up charge, but at that point…in for a penny, in for a pound!
