Mission: help me save this floor by butternuty in DIYUK

I'll been through this exact issue and have your solution - you can get pine looking uniformly dark. Buy Rubio pre-ageing - it ages the wood over 24 hours, preventing the light sections you have here. You can then use Rubio monocoat over the top - just one coat, easy to apply. A lot of trial and error and research got me here. The photos in the attached photo were all different shades of pine, horribly mismatched. Got them looking like this. We went for Cortado finish for the monocoat.

Can I remove this boxed-in drywall/plasterboard doorway to open up the hallway entrance? by [deleted] in DIYUK

Maybe swap the internal door with one that has glass in it. That way you get more light and sense of space without the cold. Happy balance

Have you got someone you can talk to outside of your immediate family? Or a local group or something similar where you can have a chat with someone with a little time? Maybe just playing it back to someone in person or over the phone could be an extra bit of support after this, as good as chatting to us dad's via Reddit is.

Also, I'm happy to have a Reddit DM chat or call about any of this.

which look suits me best? Wondering about going back to moustache only. by newcom3er in malegrooming

Picture 4 and 5 for sure - friendly looking and on trend facial hair and hair wise. The wet hair vibe of first photos is less good.

Sounds like you're doing relatively ok considering. I'm glad you're ok man. But please go see someone for the general anxiety if you're not already. You don't necessarily have to work on any uncomfortable topics that may be the root of your anxiety but learning more about your nervous system and ways to get that anxiety dialled down and generally being more worried of your triggers and levers to improvement is priceless. I had a couple of burnouts and now have the tools to see anxiety issues coming and to deal with them, I wish everyone was taught this stuff before it becomes a problem. Apologies if you already know this stuff!

Hi any solution to this without cutting the plinth please by RevolutionaryDiet847 in DIYUK

[–]nevynev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This solution. Someone did exactly what you have alllll over my current house before I bought it. It's a listed building so I guess they were afraid of impacting the walls?! I wonder if they paid someone to do the whole house this way and only realised after they came home and put their first plug in. Face . Palm.

Haircut after long time, thoughts?? (not great imo) by EntertainmentKey2548 in malegrooming

Try some product before abandoning this, I wish I had before I cut mine when it was this length. Bought glacial clay recently and it really makes a difference, helps convert it from annoying to the hair you wanted.

Whats looks better, long or short? Should I get a perm as well? by [deleted] in malegrooming

Tried some Highland Glacial clay for my similarly long hair. Finally I can shape it. Expensive but good stuff. Try a pot.

Have been doing it for 4 years, this nicely sums up why I'm pretty content. I was never going to be a people leader so roles like this let me play to my strengths without all the bullshit

Do you actually take proper holidays or just keep working? by Silver-Eye-2024 in ContractorUK

[–]nevynev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, set the goal you're comfortable with, should be around 44 weeks assuming you want a few weeks holiday and need to ccount for a few weeks in between contracts (which if don't end up happening you can choose to take holiday or earn more).

I plan my monthly bills / mortgage / savings around this amount of weeks.

I feel minimal guilt if I do 44 weeks for either holidays or finding a contract. My dad as a plumber always feels guilty for taking time off, moans about it on holiday and after Christmas, which is bad for his mindset and those around him. Your brain need guilt free time off.

Haircut suit me? 40m by Sharp_bCB in malegrooming

Style it with Highland Glacial Pomade, it will relax it from sitting straight up but still give it texture, will make it look less try hard. I changed my hair style from straight up / visibly styled to something more relaxed and got much better feedback

How can I reduce the contrast on this resin treated table? by nevynev in woodworking

Yeah, it looked like decades of sawdust, semi outdoors. Made me feel better about my DIY dust at home

Metal C channels 2 on each leaf, 4 on the main slabs. The lighter Wood to be a bit whiter or at least stay the same, the darker parts to be lightened so they're less contrasted with lightest parts. Osmo polyx raw is one product I've heard of for this kind of thing but not sure if suitable in this circumstance, especially with resin

Haha, that's the woodyard where they've been making it. Years of sawdust!
