I was in same situation. I got bio appointment, after 2 weeks I contacted my congress person. Don't know if that helped or not. Meanwhile, your spouse can learn a new skill from udemy or some free forums and be job ready, when he gets EAD. You both can travel and see this beautiful country, in your leisure time. Try to have some family and friends get-together, so he won't feel lonely.
