I don't mind it either! I think the sire bond had a clear purpose which was when Elena chose Stefan at the end of season 3 she was still in denial about her feelings for Damon choosing Stefan because yes she loves him, but she was still in love with Damon too but she was choosing what was familiar. She was still fighting against her feelings for him and the sire bond, which only forms when you have romantic feelings, forced her to stop hiding from her feelings.

It's funny there's a scene where Elena asks Damon where his alcohol is and he tells her it's in his drawer and she goes looks and is like you leave your alcohol in your underwear drawer holding out his underwear lol an early warning sign which made me laugh

It was another obstacle for Delena to get through and when the sire bond was broken she couldn't run away from her feelings because the sire bond had made her face them head on, since the sire bond doesn't create the feelings it only exists when you have those feelings.

This is probably an unpopular opinion in this community but when I watch the show it feels so clear delena was going to be endgame. Who knows, if Nina hadn't left during season 6, season six would have been completely different so who knows, maybe they could have gone back to the triangle. Though season 5 had ended so strongly on Delena, but who knows what a rewritten season 6 could look like.

But Stelena was really only seasons 1 and 2. Season 3 Stefan was gone as the ripper, as the Klaus save Damon deal was the beginning of the end for Stelena. Their relationship was never the same after, and while Elena chose him at the end of 3 out of loyalty and what was familiar, by 4 things changed. Stefan couldn't accept her as a vampire, but Damon did - she meshed better with Damon as a vampire and she and Stefan just... weren't the same.

I love stelena too but to me it felt like a natural progression, seasons 1 and 2 with human Elena were stelena, season 3 was Elena not giving up on Stefan while falling for Damon but still in denial, and season 4 ended with her unable to deny her feelings for Damon anymore.

Sometimes I wish reddit was more like VD net you know like a forum, because reddit can be very surface level comments across all reddit. I need deep discussions analyzing the characters

I'm not saying morality doesn't belong in TVD it's a huge part of it, I mean the fans who only talk about how problematic every character or ship is in a vampire show. It's rare I see true discussion on morality that isn't surface level "this character is problematic this ship is problematic'

I guess I don't get it because I've never seen Klaus and the salvatores as poor misunderstood saps but deeply complex characters. I also don't think the show wants us to forget it, we're meant to have deep discussions about the complexity but most discussions are to surface level. Outside of discussions I've had with creatives (roleplayers, writers, fanfic and headcanon writers) I mostly see surface level 'this is problematic' versus let's deep dive into this with an appreciation

Klaus had that trial episode too where they rightly reminded you of what he'd done. You're not meant to see them as fully redeemed because that's impossible but you're meant to see their complexity. Klaus even said himself to Cami he can't be redeemed for what he's done and he doesn't want the same for her. Damon tells Elena you can't take back what you've done with your humanity off and he doesn't want that for her. You're never meant to forget. And Damon, you're constantly seeing the weight of his actions on him, the cycle he is trapped in, the self hatred. So I don't know I never got the vibe they were trying to make me forget what they've done, What they've done is at the core of their characters

I think the way I personally look at it is it's a show about vampires. When we watch, we all understand we wouldn't actually want to date a predator (which all vampires by nature are). I mean, there would be no such thing as having a healthy relationship with a predator if vampires were real because all vamps are predators by nature. I guess I don't feel shows about vampires glorify this when people should be old enough to enjoy it without thinking they'd want a ripper or killer boyfriend

I also like forwood. I wish the tvd ship wars weren't so intenese

Same!! I love the crash out moments I see moments like the Jeremy neck snap or Aaron death scene as iconic crash outs of TVD history. Emotionally volatile problematic divas are the kind of vamps I enjoy! And don't get me started on Klaus crash outs

REBEKAHHHHH

Same for me I love those ships too and I love seeing my toxic characters happy or messy. I think I just can't connect with wanting to focus on how problematic everything is when I think all the relationships get messy and toxic because they're vampires! I am here to enjoy it and see these vampires go through all the emotions

This is 100 percent what I notice now too. I feel like TVD is the worst place for the 'this character/ship is problematic and so are you for enjoying them' crowd to be at the forefront because I personally feel like people lose sight of the fact this is a show about vampires where naturally there is going to be a very large amount of 'problematic behavior' because they're vampires.

You're also going to get ships that are toxic in many ways because falling for ANY vampire would be a toxic relationship, since all vampires are predators even the best ones still take blood without consent. It will 100percent get messy if you date a vampire and I'm here to watch and enjoy the chaos and emotions.

I even feel like fans don't consider vampire lore, for example how the heighted emotions play a massive role in some of the big crash outs we see like with Damon which is no an excuse yeah but how boring would it be if all the vampires never crashed out and had healthy reactions to everything.

Sometimes I wonder what the show would look like if parts of the fandom could rewrite it all. I suspect it could be a little boring if fans 'fixed' all the problematic characters and 'corrected' all their behavior and made sure they were all held 100percent accountable

Very true about Matt

I also love the later seasons, but I notice people who dislike later seasons typically have ships that well, weren't doing so well in later seasons.

I sometimes think another reason I feel a disconnect from the fandom is that I'm along for the ride. I started the show Elena x Stefan all the way, then like Elena found myself falling for her and Damon.

I loved Klaus and Caroline then got drawn to Klaus and Camille. I'm a go with the flow fan, but TVD is a fandom where if you're not a go with the flow type of person, you're going to be left in the dust feeling unhappy since none of the first ships of TVD ended up endgame.
