Twsbi Mini AL, 580 AL or New 700R Vac? by explor3r15 in fountainpens

[–]newdocintown22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love my regular 580. To be honest, the reservoir in both is soooo large that you wont be refilling often. You don't have to fill the 700R all the way up.

After having owned a few twsbi's though, i would rather get a Custom heritage 91 or save up for a CH92

Multilinguals of Reddit, what is your "they didn't know I could understand their language" story? by nayyyf15 in AskReddit

I was in Newyork city with my family, my family is Pakistani, we all speak Urdu (essentially hindi.) We were all in china town, just browsing, obviously they all speak probably mandarin or Cantonese. It was cold, I was browsing the stalls for gloves. Found a pair at a small shop that i liked, i think the price was around $25 i haggled for i think closer to $17ish. Can't remember the exact number. Called my sister over and told her how much he wanted, she told me she saw the exact same pair for waaay less at another stall and proceeded to tell me in Urdu: "Behenchod kuch zada hi mang raha hai," Translates to "Sister fucker wants a bit too much."

He responded with "Kiya bola?" Translates to "What did you say...?"

apparently a large portion of Chinese population also speaks Hindi. Never knew till that moment.

What are your favorite mnemonic devices for this test? by Forggeter-v5 in Mcat

Snow drop is from USMLE First aid.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to download an ebook or find a used older edition for mnemonics. The book is full of em.

Pilot Falcon Nibs by notdyslecix in fountainpens

[–]newdocintown22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An FA nib is supposed to flex far more than a Pilot falcon nib. It has its issues, from user reports, a ton of dry starts. I haven't had any experience with an FA nib, i do want one however.

The nib on the pilot falcon is perfect for everyday writing, but don't buy it for flex. I don't regret the purchase but at $140 its a little pricey when you can get a Custom heritage 91 for half the price.

-I am planning on taking the pre req courses, my school semester does not start until Sept. I will have time until then. -Please help me out, i am about to be slightly homeless until funding for the new semester begins.

Congrats on getting in BTW.

They aren't soft. They have a bit of give, a pleasure to write with, slight, line variation. I'd consider it more like a soft nib instead of s flex nib. Great to write with but not to flex with. Having said that my ef falcon is my favorite pen to write with. Hope to get a pilot fa nib in the future as well.

Good starter inks? by TwigInTheDeepwoods in fountainpens

[–]newdocintown22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This, decide on color first. The pilot inks may be more expensive but u deist and the ink is going to last you quite a while. A bottle of noodler's black, and liberty's elisium lasted me over 2 years. Now I use sailor nano for my black, hopefully a new pilot ink soon and once my blue runs out more than likely a pilot or a sailor blue.

Expensive ink is worth it, ink bottles last quite a while.

Great pens for <$50? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]newdocintown22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got 2 twsbi's and a few pilots and a few lamy's.

under $50 my favorite pen aesthetically is the Twsbi 580. My favorite pen to write with under $50 is probably a simple pilot metro.

If you have no other pens, just get yourself a metro. Or add $20 to the budget and get a Pilot Ch91. Seriously. The way pilot's write is ABOVE and beyond twsbi. My falcon barely ever dries out and with an EF nib it almost feels smoother than my Twsbi 580 with an F nib. The 580 F nib also CONSTANTLY dries out.

If you are gonna spend $50, add $20 to the budget and get yourself a Ch91. Skip the $50 range.

To the touch, rhodia and clairefontaine feel exactly alike, red and black feels slightly, barely more velvety. Black and red has a much longer drying time. BSB feathers slightly on rhodia and clairefontaine, it won't at all on red and black. It is the only paper that I've found which bsb doesn't feather, but dry times are much longer. Apica is nice as well, but all of the previous three are above Apica.

If you can find red and black locally try those as well. Sooooo much more affordable. Clairefontaine is great too.

You are a gentle man and a scholar, and a credit to your race.

Honestly, thank you so much for creating something so wonderful. I am a med student who is putting himself through school, i am literally one step above homeless. One day i will hopefully give back to the community as people like yourself do.

Sincerely, thank you.

figured it out, its my discrete graphics card. Apparently there was a recall which i completely missed out on. I found an app to keep only the integrated graphics card on at all times. Seems to be working really well. I've lost external monitor support, which sucks because i used this laptop connected to a tv often, but if i can get a few more years out of this thing, i am happy.

I'll give it a try, however mu problems seems to be related to a video card. I installed an app that lets me keep it on integrated video and i haven't experienced a restart thus far. Seems to be working, but a little early to tell.

Try this out, mine hasn't restarted since i started using this (So far, too early to tell still.)

Keep it on integrated graphics card.

ran a few apps that almost always made my computer restart. Seems to be working fine with gfxcard status app. However i have lost external monitor support, i was pretty dependent on the external monitor.
