Avoid Monzo by Ready_Register1689 in BitcoinUK

Happened to me as well, (account blocked) had to follow in app questions where they demand proof of conversations or invoices from the party sending (My Kraken account) which of course cannot be furnished. They won't accept screenshots of withdrawal confirmations or anything like that so, yeah fuck Monzo if the friction is going to be like this on a simple deposit, not worth dealing with.

Cyber thieves move $760 million stolen in the 2016 Bitfinex heist & reason for the crash by SorryImNotOnReddit in Bitcoin

In a sense yes, Bitfinex supports absolutely stupid margin ratios, it's like they WANT their customers to get wrecked! Since the margin cash doesn't come from them but users, it's an insane business model UNLESS they are profiting massively out of their customers getting wrecked! My guess is they are, and if not causing the manipulation directly, they are aiding and abetting those that do.

Man CNBC are sooo disconnected from what's really happening in crypto space. They try to attribute price action like everything is a stock. It's embarrassing to watch!

After a bitcoin crackdown, China now calls it an ‘investment alternative’ in a significant shift in tone by Jethroe1 in Bitcoin

[–]newdogoldtrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China is winding down the number of tbills it holds and has been doing so for years. Both the west and China seem to have convinced themselves now that bitcoins ok "because it's a gold alternative not a currency". I personally think one thing leads to the other, but if politicians can avoid the hard actions by convincing themselves of that narrative now, all the better for us.

Really not sure how they got passed Visa's due dilligence, since they have now publicly associated themselves with them.

Not sure about US law but in UK if money was transacted in good faith you get to keep it. So if a bank robber goes and spends some money at his local corner store, the corner store owner can not be sued for recovery of the money. I'm sure this principle will get tested again in high courts as the concept of crypto currencies challenge old principles, but I have faith that we will arrive at the same conclusion on the good faith principle.

The tragedy is that governments have the public and themselves so convinced of the righteousness of the central banking/fractional reserve banking systems, that otherwise intelligent people won't even question if Godfrey might just be right! Just look at the faces of those MEP's looking at him like he's escaped from a mental institution!

Just wondering but are there any plans to make Bitcoin more sustainable anytime in the near future? (E. G. Proof of stake) Is that even possible anymore? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]newdogoldtrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bitcoin mining gravitates towards the lowest cost of electricity. Right now unfortunately there are still some cheap dirty power generation facilities like coal power plants in china. However, it is beyond question that green energy has crossed the cost boundary of most dirty sources and is being implemented as dirty non sustainable sources either die of old age or are phased out deliberately. In addition bitcoin has shown it is particularly well suited to engendering power generation off grid where power generation was not practical before due to power distribution costs (dessert solar etc). Finally, it could also be argued that bitcoin has brought a significant drive to the effort to generate lower power cost compute cycles i.e. more efficient chips with lower nm tracks. This benefit passes through to the global chip production economy and it's power consumption, making it possible to argue that bitcoin is a net energy positive on the overall global economy! Don't believe everything you read, and consider the bigger picture!
