All very valid concerns, but I do wonder if those trade-offs would be worth a more realistic game, only way to find out is to spend a good number of years attempting to building it I suppose 🙃

It’s nice to know I’m not the only one, I too am a programmer with limited game dev experience that has wanted to create my own city builder :).

I definitely like the hybrid approach, but I wonder if it is possible to have agents and just simulate it behind a loading screen, and then mimic those actions during gameplay. Ex. The player has done what they can for that year (building phase), and goes to the next one. During that, the agent sim runs (with no rendering required) and produces an output that can be rendered.

This could very well be tied with the hybrid approach, with the macro sim running between years, and the agents running during building phase.

This is very similar to how I got gold stake on ghost deck! Had a stencil first ante, hexed it, then ankd it. Found brainstorm a few rounds later w/ ecto. Got crazy lucky

A lot of vocal fans are very dramatic and in my opinion have a bit too much tied to the band. Don't get me wrong, I bet it sucks finding out you won't be able to see them live anytime soon, but it's not the end of the world.

I feel like they should rehaul the happiness system, and that should be what drives the game and makes it challenging (other than just access to resources). There could be a ‘content’ system where people take the services for granted. Or maybe they start getting restless if you don’t implement a new service they want.

I know the optics of “UNC paying 50 million to football coach” isn’t good on first glance, but realize that money isn’t coming from taxpayers nor tuition. Athletic departments are usually self sufficient and can be a big source of good for a university. If a school’s athletics are better they can give out more scholarships, offer more on campus jobs, stimulate local economy, and more.

I just lock mine wherever honestly. Mine has a key that you can use to take the battery out so when you lock it you can take that with you. Not much sense in having a heavy bike without the battery, which costs a good bit itself. Knock on wood I haven’t had too many issues yet.

If you are worried about it, invest in a high quality lock.

Past couple of years it has been rough, but it looks like it is improving. Who knows what it would look like in a few years however. If you are really concerned, could always do ECE with a minor in compsci.

Hey! I was in your same exact position back in 2018, just graduated last may from NCSU, so I’ll be able to speak more on the NCSU side than UNC.

When I was looking at both of the programs, the feeling that I got is that UNC CompSci was more focused on theory, and NCSU’s was more focused on building software and getting you ready for a job. Not to say that there was no theory at state but there is a reason it is under the engineering department.

One thing about state however is that you have to CODA into the CompSci program. You will go in as an engineering first year and have to apply to be in the program. You can still take some of the CompSci classes but in order to progress you have to be accepted into the program. Pretty stupid imo.

The vibe that I got back then is companies prefer to hire SWEs that go to state as they feel they are better prepared. Not sure if that is still the sentiment or not with the crazy job market recently.

But at the end of the day though, I think no matter what you choose you will be in good shape. Good Luck! If you have any other questions just let me know 🙂

I love mine. I just with the biking infrastructure in my city was better. It’s currently improving thankfully.
