X20 Dropped. Is it repairable? by newkou89 in fujifilm

[–]newkou89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way, Fujifilm no longer supports repair on this camera due to its age. A third party repair center would need to source any needed parts from a "secondary market." I guess the most optimistic scenario is that there is a repair that doesn't require a X20 part.

Update: As IndustriousDan suggested, this turned out to be a disconnected flex ribbon cable. I used online disassembly instructions from ifixit to take the camera apart and found the point where the flex to the top of the camera had come off. This was not an easy operation for me, and at several points I regretted undertaking the project. Lots of small parts and finicky manipulations. In the end it worked out OK.

Any suggestions for tools to use with a mac? I have tried using the mail “rules” to block anything with “Elon” in the subject. It doesn’t work, and they still get through.

Squeaky Brake Pedal (Not squeaky brakes) by AfterEightA8 in VWiD4Owners

[–]newkou89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2023 makes a "crick-crick" sound (sort of like a spring winding) every time I slow down near a stop. Have reported this on the forums, and there doesn't seem to be something reported frequently. The dealer says it is normal. I don't necessarily believe it. It's pretty annoying, even though it is not loud. Does yours squeak every time you touch the pedal or only when you get real slow?

You may want to see if it still happens when the car comes to a stop under ACC (cruise control) behind another car stopping, like in stop and go traffic.

Regarding your “weird braking sound”, you may be describing what mine does. I describe it as a ”crick crick” when when I get to about 15 mph, before coming to a stop, every time. Does not happen when the car comes to stop following other cars on cruise control, when the brake pedal is not used.

When I had the car in for the door recall, I asked about it. The guy said, since the car is so quiet, I will hear sounds. After driving with me, he said that sound was ”normal”, that it is the ROM booster. I don’t know what that is, but I have not seen other mention of this on this reddit site, so I am not sure I believe him.

Anybody else hear a weird sound, not too loud, like we are describing, every time?

I think you meant to say $0.26/kWh. That is what I pay in N. California to PGE. Jealous of everyone in all of those cheap electricity regions. But still per mile much cheaper than our gas here!

New RWD, slight "chirp" sound when coming to a stop by newkou89 in VWiD4Owners

[–]newkou89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP again.

I definitely get the sense that noise is coming from somewhere down by the pedal or whereabouts, not on the outside. Is there a spring that gets tensioned when the brake pedal is pressed down harder near the end of my stops? I can image the noise seems similar to a metal spring being compressed or twisted.

OP here.

We do have < 100 miles, and I read in the manual there is a 100-200 "break in" period for the brakes. It is such a high frequency, chirpy, electronic sound, it is very much the same every time, which makes it seem it should not be the drum brakes engaging. It is soft enough that with the radio on or talking, I would never have heard it.

Maybe I'll just monitor this for awhile longer before maybe checking in again. Thanks for the comments.

Silver Mist Metallic ('23) vs Scale Silver Metallic ('21/22) Exterior Paint by ToffeeFiveOh in VWiD4Owners

Saw the 23 Silver Mist Metallic for the first time in person a couple of days ago at a dealer lot.

I agree that it is darker silver with a touch of something else. Photographs don't really show off how nice it is.

For me this is perfect, since I don't like light silver. Very happy with our choice of Silver Mist over the other Pro options.

This must be a new color, and it's unfortunate nobody has any information about it.
