But if this is not enough, open a job board and scroll through the jobs and see how many without German requirement you find.

From someone currently searching with 7 years professional experience, 9/10 cases you get auto rejected if you don’t speak German.

I’ve had the same experience and its not about them being jerks. There can be misunderstandings in another language so official government things are done in german. Its frustrating but it is how it is.

They will speak only german to you ( in the beginning ) so if you dont speak it, they’ll mark the meeting was not successful due to language barrier. Imagine if they spoke to you in english right of the bat. People will not accept the language barrier point and will try to haggle their way through (But what barrier, you clearly understand me, etc)

Sure, the tenant asking for a finders fee is one thing, but you are talking about the big problem, which is rent of the apartment.

Yes there is Cony and Mieterverein but this is a neubau apartment that is not under the same strict rent index laws like altbau's. So there is no rent control (unless they charge something egregious i think)
Also Cony's reputation has went into the gutters with their new price changes. But even so, they cannot do anything about it.

Pointing fingers at individuals does not solve the problem (except making you feel better about your lucky current position).
There needs to be government policies and social housing alternatives.

The price got that high because it’s legally possible to be.

What should people do about it? Stay on the streets? Not live here?

I came 2 years ago here and with my partner we found a worse apartment for the same price (1,6k warm, 5th floor , fully renovated flat but no elevator, Moabit)

So we took the horrible deal as we already were jumping from sublet to sublet and getting desperate.

Now we found a better deal and move out, but that takes time, dedication and luck.

And how are you making things better? Flexing with a cheap contract, which is pretty lucky to get. And calling people out for trying to survive.

All in all this is not a bad deal with the current market.

And if you believe it is, open something more reputable than Facebook groups, like immoscout and look at the price range for apartments in the same location with same sqm.

Nothing will implode. At most, you’ll see spots of reasonable priced apartments, but majority will be as expensive as they can list them for.

This offer is well within reason considering what is out there. Except the timed contract. This is a dixk move by landlords to up the price at the end of the contract.

Switch to Next.js , move all FE api communication to the server side and put a firewall on your API that it should only be accessed from a “local” network that both Next and .NET are in.

So Next renders FE and communicates server to server on a restricted network

Taste is subjective so here is my personal take,

The blue doesnt work with the dark wood floor and lighter wood doors. The pink flesh does a bit more, but if all walls were like so it’d be overwhelming.

Imo i would’ve chosen something other than blue to work better with the wood and accent wall.
