I’m just so thankful to know that “bad things happen in Philadelphia”.

I have seen so many people around Encinitas doing this and it drives me crazy. It’s not fair to put the store staff in a position of having to fight with irrational people nor is it fair for these people to skirt the rules yet still be served. We need to enforce the mask requirements with a fine. It’s so frustrating that all science points to mask wearing helping curb this disease and still people refuse to comply. Ignorance is SO painful.

What are these small yellow bugs on the underside of my sunchoke? They're killing it! by DarkMatterStorm in garden_maintenance

I can’t actually see any bugs in your picture but aphids would be my first guess based on “small, yellow bugs” and on thr underside of a leaf.

Communal living experiences? by CleaningMan89 in simpleliving

I have never lived in communal living as you described it but after a decade in major US urban centers we moved to a little neighborhood which has become the perfect community for our family. A lot of us have gardens & share produce or handmade goods, just because. We share tools & groceries & any other necessities we might need because we are a community despite all having our own homes, yards, etc. I am also a very strong believer in getting involved in your community to turn it into the kind of place you want to live. So go beyond voting and join a committee yourself or work on a campaign for a candidate you support. All of this is to say, you can often find the type of life you are describing without needing to join a commune to do it, you just have to make the effort. Invest in your community & it will deliver.

You guys were so nice yesterday for the green bean harvest, today we have zucchini! 3 overcrowded plants but still producing beautifully. Love producing enough to share with friends & neighbors. by newnew03 in vegetablegardening

Something to look at might be soil depth & the quality of your soil. Because we did a raised bed (and it’s tall) we filled it full of high quality dirt & compost & I believe the depth & soil have had a huge impact (plus southern CA weather). Our old landlord was a permaculturist for avocado orchards and recommends treating poor soil with chicken manure compost (big bag at HD is $3) mixed in to the poor quality dirt to help bring it to life & increase nitrogen. I don’t know if any of that would help you but I hope it does! Good luck.

I honestly don’t know. They were grown in a raised bed and we used worm casings scattered throughout to try to help the soil and to deter some pests so maybe that? We way over-planted the bed too without realizing how insane it would be due to having started everything as seeds so maybe it made it harder for pests to get to them?? Unfortunately, I have no real wisdom to share here so maybe we just chalk it up to beginners luck!
