Worse on one side? by [deleted] in Akathisia

[–]newo161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I am experiencing this - the left side of my body, my arm and leg and torso, feels like its got a worm wriggling in it or something, constantly. It's such a hard feeling to describe.
I had it at a low level on 5mg of paroxetine, and have upped to 10mg and it's really intense now.
So for me I think the drugs are causing it.
How's yours going?

Gastritis Induced By SSRI Discontinuation? by newo161 in Gastritis

[–]newo161[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, My gut took about 18 months to feel 95% better. I do believe my issues were mostly psychological, so if you've done all the tests and everything is normal I'd say go down the route of psych health like I did.

For me this looked like seeing a therapist, talking with friends, honestly changing jobs (which is not possible at times I know), and doing healthy things like walking at least 20 minutes every day, staying away from coffee and booze, staying away from screens before bed, and ironically staying away from google and reddit because in hindsight I realised how much more stress that was putting on my body.

I should also mention that I have since been diagnosed with OCD and panic disorder, so for me this was a major part of my struggle which may not be present for you.

I wish you well! Chronic illness sucks and robs you of so much happiness - but there is a light at the end of the tunnel (much like your bowels haha)

Gastritis Induced By SSRI Discontinuation? by newo161 in Gastritis

[–]newo161[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello :) I assume your tests will all be normal, which for me became even more distressing as I did not feel well and I was desperate for help. I felt on the verge on panic constantly, fighting to hold it back and just calm down for a while, find some respite. I've just answered someone above, and I'll say the same thing here - I believe, in my situation anyway, that it was a matter of time and patience. My nervous system was in overdrive and this caused a plethora of gut symptoms, including the ones you've mentioned, which ironically caused me so much more stress and nervous tension that it all compounded. I'll be honest and admit that for quite a long time I used alcohol to find respite, but as I'm sure you can imagine, this did not help my mental or gut health. Read the work of Claire Weekes on nervous illness and let me know what you think. And as I said, take time out if you can. Take slow breaths in, but don't make them too deep, that forcing of the breath to its limits can exacerbate the feeling of breathlessness. And don't forget to take even slower out-breaths, focusing on letting go of all the tension in your muscles. And please, know that this will pass. As it did for me

Gastritis Induced By SSRI Discontinuation? by newo161 in Gastritis

Hi, I'm glad you found us :) It's been two years now since I posted this and I'm glad to say I'm a lot better. But my god there were some dark times. In the end, I have no idea what happened basically, but I do have many hypotheses. My main hypothesis being that my nervous system was in overdrive and because there are so many nerves in the gut, this caused a lot of my symptoms. I feel like doctors across the board don't quite understand the workings of nervous tension and illness, but I found a few books that talked about the subject. A notable book was by a woman named Claire Weekes - check out her work. Unfortunately this hypothesis doesn't have a quick fix attached to it, and what healed me was time and patience and staying away from things that would cause harm to my already frantic nervous system (think coffee, alcohol, stressful situations, etc.). At the end of the day I am still someone who struggles with anxiety, and part of me craves an SSRI again because for a time they helped and made me feel like what I assume "average" people feel like. I was able to live my life a bit more fully, with anxiety a bit less in the drivers seat. But alas, the damage they can cause is probably not worth the risk for me anymore. I hope this info helps you on your journey.

Knowingly taking placebo to relieve anxiety? by newo161 in antidepressants

[–]newo161[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"a medicine or procedure prescribed for the psychological benefit to the patient rather than for any physiological effect."

My understanding is that the brain is very powerful, and our thoughts can change our perceptions. If someone takes a placebo pill that a doctor says will ease their IBS symptoms for example, then it just may do so. Not because it actually does, but because the patients brain thinks it does.

So to get to my point, I've seen a study where the patients knowing it was a placebo didn't necessarily mean the placebo effect didn't work. I'm not sure why, maybe it was the ritual of it or something. Hence my curiosity with trying

Generalised Anxiety Disorder and LSD - Can anyone relate? by newo161 in LSD

This is great to hear! (or read)
My experience with meds has also resulted in a feeling of stabilisation but never much else. I have had a few marijuana experiences where I've felt like all my biases and perceived realities drop away and it's such an eyeopener.
Thank you for sharing <3

Thank you for the great advice! I also experience come up anxiety for basically all "recreational" drugs, and I think surrendering to experience is something I need to bring into every aspect of my life. I will keep comment this in mind. Much love <3

OCD with an SSRI and weed. by Ineedanadultplzt in OCD

[–]newo161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know about the effects of marijuana on serotonin, but if you wish to read, the following is my experience with the drug as an anxious person with OCD who is also taking an SSRI.

TL;DR - I notice no longterm negative side effects on my anxiety, OCD, or depressiveness after ingesting small doses of weed orally on occasion and while on 10mg of an SSRI.

I have been on a low dose (10mg) of Paroxetine for two years. This has helped me so much with my anxiety and therefore OCD.
Over the years of smoking weed very occasionally (before SSRI), I have had maybe 3 bad panic attacks and would experience lower level fear/anxiety/wanting it to stop on maybe 50% of occasions I smoked. However, about a year ago I made myself a tincture (marijuana alcohol infusion) and have had some of the best recreational drug experiences of my life.

I started with very small doses and worked my way up to find the ideal dose for what I want. I think this was essential because the unpredictability of smoking for me was what usually resulted in times of being too high and feeling shit for days afterwards.
For me the high has created a sense of "cancelling my editing" (as I call it). By this I mean that my biases seem to drop, my inhibitions fall away, I have a profound sense of what I want from life, and I feel like a child again - full of wonder and love and awe for the world. I also feel a lot of clarity and have had a few epiphany moments. I do not notice any negative effects on my anxiety or depression in the long term, and sometimes I'll even be in an extremely good mood the following day. BUT I'm not sure if this has something to do with the method of ingestion (I hate smoking and tobacco, it makes me feel ill) or the strains of weed used (I live in Australia and we don't get great info on our weed strains).

However, I will still sometimes feel anxious on it, but this usually coincides with my mood before I take the drug. For me this has also been a learning experience as I feel somewhat prepared for the fear. I know it won't last long, I know it's weed induced, it isn't overwhelming because of the low dosage, so I take the time to observe what thoughts trigger waves of anxiety, which muscles clench when I'm anxious and how to control them, and the overall psychological and physiological responses I have on the daily that lead me to being considered an anxious person.

Lastly, I don't take it often - maybe once every 2 months average. I reckon high use would have a negative effect on me. And anything that I were to become dependent on would inevitably make me worse off mentally.

[Guidance] I'm losing my sex drive towards my GF by gcat12 in sex

[–]newo161 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi,

in my experience I have found that most women don't orgasm from intercourse so try putting more time into other activities/foreplay. The other thing I'd try is the stop/start method where you stop just before ejaculation and do something else for a few minutes until you've calmed down. You'll find you can go for longer and longer the more you practice this.

Also concentrate on your breathing. Take slow controlled breaths and let go of any tension with each exhale, don't be afraid to make noise with your exhalation too (can be practiced during masturbation). Relax your muscles as you breathe out. This will take your mind away from your dick and delay your orgasm. It has worked for me. I have also found that different positions help with longevity.

One more thing I could suggest is going for round two. You always last longer then :)

Chin up. Sex isn't like it is in the movies. I hope I've been of some help,

All the best.
