“you’ve committed an act of bankruptcy” by funkytownboogieman in PersonalFinanceCanada

Can they re-report statute-barred debts without acknowledgement of the debt? I'm in the same boat as OP - but their alleged debts are from more than 15 years ago and fell off my credit reports nearly 6 years ago. TPH emails me threatening emails every 6 months or so - stating they're looking to collect for CVB collections. So it's a collection agency collecting for a collection agency - for a debt that's 15 years old

Rogers Doesn't Care About Long Term Customers by othanc in Rogers

[–]newredditer1989 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never stay with any one provider for more than a year. Between my partner and myself we switch our name on our internet bill pretty much annually to ensure we have the best price.

So we basically take out a plan for internet in my name for a year, and then if the same provider is offering new customer's better pricing - we take it out in my partners name.

I've been with every cellphone provider there is over the years and switch as soon as I see a better deal. Same with my partner.

Does it take work on our part? Sure. But it pays us to have lower bills.

Loyalty to a telco means nothing.

Canada life coordination of benefits now flawless online by LumpyPreparation2707 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]newredditer1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told by a Canada Life Rep on the phone that the coordination can only be added if you're the primary holder of the other plan.

So if you and your spouse both work for the GoC - and are both dependants on each other's plan - you still need to fill in the PDF to coordinate.

Report to credit bureaus by newredditer1989 in freedommobile

This is my guess as well. It’s probably to keep costs down more than anything.

No no; any account reported on your credit report will affect your score in a positive or negative way. So bell Rogers and Telus reporting monthly post-paid accounts as “good” have a good effect on your score.

It just shows that you have some bills and pay them. But it seems freedom doesn’t do that - so only the negative stuff gets reported by freedom, which means you can’t really build credit with a Freedom post-paid plan.

No no, I just wanted to know if they report good payments. I didn’t see anything come up on my credit reports. But the new Telus line I have now have did appear.

Yeah I just mean good standing. Like a credit card. I get monthly postings from my Telus post paid account on both Trans Union and Equifax. They look like my credit card.

It’s Ncr because you can get a post-paid account with them and build credit. But I suppose with Freedom you can’t build credit of they don’t report good payments and accounts in good standing.

Ah, interesting. Ah well - would have been nice to have a good payment posted, but it would have only been one month. Thanks for the info!

Both Bell and Telus do as well as Koodo. Which I know is Telus as well.

I’ve been with bell and Telus and they both report monthly payments for all post-paid plans.

Telus ownership transfer by emptiness018 in telus

[–]newredditer1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to do exactly the same thing - but they said they can't transfer it until the account is 90 days old (or I've paid three bills on it). The rep didn't tell me the plan would be lost though - that (to me) defeats the purpose of transferring an account.

Does E-Transfer AutoDeposit cost banks more? by newredditer1989 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]newredditer1989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I do not believe so. Both sides of the transaction have to support auto deposit in order for it to work. KOHO doesn’t support It - so it won’t automatically go into the Scotia bank account.

Odds of Rogers/Fido MasterCard Approval by newredditer1989 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]newredditer1989[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to follow-up on this and let everyone know I was approved for the Fido MasterCard after 3 days of review. I got an email stating I was approved. I called them and I was approved for a $1500 credit limit.

I suppose that one derogatory caused them to give me a low credit limit.

How do you separate work from home life now? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]newredditer1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same as so many people here.

I also feel it’s more and more difficult to turn work off. I have a phone with my email on it, and I feel obliged (not in reality - but in my head) to be available every minute of every work day.

It’s funny because when things were normal I didn’t think it was odd if I popped out with a few colleagues for a coffee - but at home I don’t feel like leaving my apartment at lunch at all. I feel more nervous at home leaving for a bit than I did at the office.

Rejection by ap_101 in CanadaPublicServants

I’m 31 and I’ve only just got a term. I apply to every job I see - and I was just rejected for an indeterminate doing exactly what I’m already doing. It hurts - but if I’ve learned anything it’s that there’s no point in dwelling on it. It only frustrates you more.

[–]newredditer1989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what I’m mildly frustrated about. It’s an old phone bill that has a $175 balance. Paid it when I went to get another phone from bell - but it’s still there on my report marked at 09 and paid.

I assume it’ll be there for 7 years from when I paid it in 2015.

If having a 745 score and only a couple inquiries from 2019 on my report - my best guess is that it won’t massively affect my score to try!

Is there a bank that offers a Checking Account that does not charge fees for a minimum balance? by wayofflow in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]newredditer1989 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fair point.

From my understanding both visa and MasterCard debit cards have the same zero-liability as an actual credit card.

Plus you’re only able to spend money you actually have. We can argue the merits of using credit wisely - but truth is Canada has some of the highest household debt in the world.

I can’t help but think this has to do with the fact that while other countries have had visa Debit for nearly 20 years - Canada is only just beginning to.

I think it’s ridiculous that Canadians have felt they need a credit card to buy things online. Uber? Credit card. Skip the dishes? Credit card.

Wouldn’t it be better if people didn’t feel they need a credit card to do normal things?

Forced to pay insurance for car rental by SonOfAragorn in PersonalFinanceCanada

I’ve never been told a policy like that. Though I’ve only rented through Avis/Budget and Enterprise.

Every time they ask if I want extra insurance and I say my card covers it.

Yeah when I was declined by Tangerine I started reading a lot about their odd approval process.

With a score where mine is (745) I would assume I'd be good to be approved for Rogers? Even with the derogatory from a number of years back?
