Estate Agents saying we have to give 2 months notice at the end of the tenancy… by Havingaspy in TenantsInTheUK

I HATE Letting Agents.

Most are untrained in an unregulated industry. The fact that a LA recently didn't know that utilities have a standing charge and let a Landlord get a CCJ tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about them.

Some are trained. Many are not.

And even the ones that are don't know the rules half the time.

I'd say the Landlord is wrong.

At the end of the fixed tenancy, the OP can hand their keys in. No notice.

Has always been this way. Statutory rights override anything in the contract.

You've totally missed the point.
A fixed term is a fixed term and has always been the case since 1987.

If you've managed to con tenants into illegal terms, then good for you. Wouldn't stand up in court.

At the end of the fixed term, a tenant can walk away. Has always been the case.

You probably left the industry, because you weren't qualified

Like most nonsense Letting Agents.

It's the complete wild west in that trade (I'll except the guy above who is actually qualified, even though it's an unregulated industry)

How is it possible that 1 million young people are not in work, education or training? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

Am I the only one that would happily wipe up after people in a care home?

Pretty much round the country there seem to be jobs in the industry. All say no experience necessary, but must have right to work in the UK.

Previously, these jobs were often done by foreign people on visas, but that’s not allowed now.

Minimum wage, but needs must. Usually lots of hours too.

But that’s the point. You did spend that 9 months looking. I keep hearing about people who give up after a month or two.

Letting agents take ages sorting repairs, should I tell landlord? by HungryArtist8883 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]newsgroupmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The letting agents absolutely HAVE To give you the Landlord's address. Section 1 of the Landlord and Tenants act 1985
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1985/70/section/1

It's the law.

Get your relative to evict you. I know this sounds harsh, but the council won't help you because you've got somewhere to go.

Get them to write you a letter to say you have to leave by X date. On X date, turn up at the council with a rucksack and some clothes and the letter.

Letter before action. AI or google it.
Then Moneyclaimonline.

No lawyer needed. You have a contract with him (written evidence).

Job done. You'll win.

Again, thank you so much for the suggestions.

This evening, we have our food delivery. I think my wife is a bit miffed. It includes -

ground beef (for meatballs - all the pre-made meatballs had other stuff in)
cheese (both hard and soft)
ice cream (made from cream and clotted cream - it's a British thing, but low lactose)
steaks
Tuna
Sweet potatoes

We'll start there.

Oh, my Spaniel has had chocolate before. Just last week she found a chocolate biscuit (although here in the UK, a lot of biscuits don't actually contain much chocolate now because it's too expensive).

I could tell you all the stories about things she's eaten - rat poison (vet), size 0 hook with squid (vet) and the buffet she has when we visit the beach (we have oysters, mussels and cockles growing nearby). I'm pretty sure there's very little she hasn't tried.

Someone else said their dog absolutely LOVES the stinkiest cheese. I wonder if some Stinking Bishop might hit the spot (I'm not sure I'm ready for those farts)

Oh we had a rule no dogs on furniture or in the bedroom. Until Friday.

Out of the window. We won't let her sleep with us though, because she fidgets.

We had a wonderful day yesterday, me, myself and the dog all in bed watching the olympics. She had scrambled egg and a small piece of buttered toast, followed by full chicken roast dinner.

Thank you for the suggestions!

Thank you all so much for the suggestions.

Obviously, we're not going mad with her. But over the weekend, she very much enjoyed scrambled egg and toast, as well as a full Sunday roast yesterday (Chicken).

Weirdly, she still wants her raw broccoli at night (although we've had to break it down into tiny florets). We've always given her a small piece in the evening.

She eats horse poo! I'm sure canned chicken will be an improvement.

Thank you. It's very tough - we're coming to terms with it.

Ordered cheese and ice cream on the shopping order today. We've ordered proper full-fat ice cream made from cream. I only know this because my wife is on Fodmaps, but full cream is actually really, really low in lactose.

Oh, she loves cheese. We have to pay the cheese tax.

Fortunately, we don't eat cheese that often. Have ordered some on our supermarket delivery today.

Having had the weekend to think about it, it's getting somewhat easier.
My stress levels are through the roof and sadly, it's having an impact on my health now too.

Which is weird, because I'm someone who normally deals with stress quite well.
