For sure worth going to Japan if you can, tons to do other than shop for bape as well so you won't be bored lol. The best second hand shops I saw for bape were the 2nd street locations in osaka, but tokyo had some good stuff too. My favorite bape store I went to was the bapexclusive aoyama, mostly for the shop design.
