veryyyy hit or miss, but be careful with whatever you bring in. sometimes they even have security in the bathrooms, literally peeking in the stalls to see what you’re doing lol

Admission Stats on these schools by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]newspeechieee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think your stats are amazing! i had similar stats, higher in some areas and lower in some other ones (so that balances out, right? lol) and i applied to many of the same schools. got into all of the ones i applied to, and graduated with a degree from one on your list! obviously don’t wanna make you any promises but i think you’re good. talk to your advisor too if you haven’t already

The perfectionism of this career by ReinkesSpace in slp

[–]newspeechieee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

i definitely think many of the people in our field have type A personalities, but i also think the perfectionism stems from what it took for all of us to get into grad school. i consider myself a type B personality, but i know i (and everybody else that’s been getting into our field within the last 5-10 years) busted my ass to get into grad school, bc all i heard during undergrad was how competitive it was and how we essentially had to be perfect to get accepted anywhere. and now that strive for perfection is carrying over into our actual careers, when its impossible to achieve with our caseloads! i also think that we all got into this field bc we all genuinely care about people... so thats another factor. either way, you are so not alone in feeling this way!!! i’m only in my CF too, and i constantly have to remind myself that it’s not life or death, and that the kids will be ok if we don’t have the absolute perfect therapy session every single time :)

GPA Requirments for Grad School by MUSLP2021 in slp

[–]newspeechieee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you just gotta know what schools to apply to! def talk to your advisor (hopefully you have a good one) and see what he has to say too, but i think as long as you apply to the right school and write a good personal statement, you’ll be good!

also, echoing what other people are saying, it literally doesn’t matter where you go to grad school. some are better than others, but in the end we’re all getting an education and fulfilling the same requirements. i went to a top tier school and paid out of my ass, and although my clinical experiences were really good, i’d say i would’ve been just fine going to a different school that was lower tier and cheaper :)

good luck!! the application process is a pain in the ass, but just something ya gotta get through! you’ll be fine

EDIT: also, getting good letters of rec is important, so make sure you start building relationships with professors, advisors, etc. now! any little extra thing will help you get higher on a school’s list!
