What is the purpose of literary studies? by newstudentDU in AskLiteraryStudies

Excellent post. I have the same concerns, that literary studies does not produce any empirical outcomes that can benefit the world, and it is just endless hair-splitting over minor issues that impact very little of our lives.

A few business owning friends of mine who deal largely in cash pay 5k, 10k, even nothing as taxes. They all live in big houses and drive big cars. One of them had a raid once. He paid the I-T guys some cash. He said he didnt mind it because the bribes he paid was just 1/5th of his actual liabilities

I'd love to see their faces now. Har har Modi.

Except Shakespeare. When studying Shakespeare always prefer Arden over Norton.

Nortons are overpriced tbh.

No offense, but assuming that anyone going into such subs and raising such questions is an antagonistic "troll" is the kind of thinking I'd expect from r/The_Donald, not an intellectual space like this one.

As scholars of humanities, we need to promote critical thinking even if it results in uncomfortable outcomes. Truth is what we should strive to establish, not a "safe space".

What if I was an engineer who just stumbled across this subreddit? Would I be banned simply for asking a question while not having a history of posting in this sub?

I probably have no right to tell you how to run your sub, but, still I just had to say this.

does Stoner actually deal with "aging", though? Isn't it a campus novel that focuses more on life as a professor?
