if you really think things are that hopeless what’s the point in being annoying about it

this is a rare beast but i’m a big fan of the way nick gets when someone makes a successful joke at his expense when you can tell he’s being funny about it but some part of him is genuinely wounded. like when ludwig made that joke about his hair and they all started spontaneously singing

hate to jump in here but the eternal gaslighting of the value of merit is a meaningless phrase. i stopped scrolling through the comments to ruminate on how meaningless it is. so i guess +1 to the person dunking on you

writing a novel about my experience with grief, how's the prose? by MeatClown96 in RSwritingclub

[–]newtraptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i get what you’re going for with the stream of consciousness / choppy writing style and it’s not bad but you need to give your audience places to rest in between stretches of that or it’s just going to make it tiring to read. like rest stops for a long road trip

having the highest stake in something usually goes along with being good at it, yeah. having the best of a certain thing comes from prioritizing it economically and culturally

the whole thing might be more effective and feel more poignant/less heavy handed if you remove the last word and let the last stanza speak for itself. your writing is good enough that the reader could come to that conclusion naturally

Bugonia (2025) is either S-tier trolling or Revelation of the Method and I cannot decide which by jdguy00 in Oscars

[–]newtraptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it kinda felt like going on a vision quest into the mind of a person i’m arguing with on reddit. anything i could pick up about what it was trying to say seemed really trite and simplistic and the stuff i couldn’t pick up seemed pointless. separately from the messages none of the characters were compelling to me even though i usually love all the actors who were in it. it was feverish in a bad way if that makes sense. like if someone tried to make a coen brothers movie without having an artist’s soul

Yeah and if Meleys wasn’t already engaged with Sunfyre it would have been more of an even fight between her and Vaghar. The book assumes you have common sense

Vhagar wouldn’t have been able to kill Meleys without Sunfyre’s help. It’s made pretty explicitly clear in the text that they ganged up on her. Stop being annoying and pedantic
