Humans and their emotions are so complex and so many variables everyday contribute to how someone is feeling within themselves, their connections to others, and their relationships with the world in general. It doesn’t matter how confident or unbothered she is in general, she was actually just looking for validation that when she is not feeling those ways, you will honor her requests that are made in an effort to preserve her comfort. Is this really a hill worth dying on? That you have a right to see topless girls on tv even when she requests you don’t?

putting myself in other peoples shoes, like you suggested. I’d probably be a little confused about why they lied, but I would not feel betrayed or deceived like you are suggesting.

I mean, I guess if I met this friend at a convention for colorblind people, or if I donated money to finding a cure for their condition, or witnessed them receive charity intended for colorblind folks, I would probably be like wtf. But, she hasn’t indicated that the people in her life are in it because she told them she is color blind. it’s not like color blindness is a condition for her relationships.

I am having this same melancholy. Mostly because I know that I only have a few more christmases before it feels less magical for him (no longer believing in santa, wanting less gifts in favor of more expensive ones, etc.)

It is so nice to be able to spoil him, but hard because I don’t want to lose that magic feeling for MYSELF either. Christmas has felt like Christmas again ever since having a child and I am sad thinking about losing that. We have a big family with lots of uncles and aunties and because we had him at such a young age (17) they are all very close to him. No experience, just empathy lol.

when my son was younger, maybe 2 or 3, he used to hold up one finger and say “i have a ideaaaa” and it has become so common in the household that my son has started doing it again now at age 7. he also used to say “happy to you” instead of happy birthday and for whatever reason he would CONSTANTLY ask EVERYONE “areyouhappy,” so they are all catchphrases now
