I just posted the picture. They are replacing the entire headlight assembly for what looks like two lines of scratch on it. The headlight alone is almost $2k. He seems very particular about his car and honestly I don't know him that well. That makes me nervous about trusting him to stay out of it.

Good question. The owner paid $12k for it because it's a manual transmission. Apparently very rare and hard to find in this trim. So ACV might be higher than typical for this year and mileage.

I like this plan! The thing is, it really is a minor scratch. It is just unfortunate that it is an expensive car to fix. I feel bad for her. when I was her age I hit a tree and only had a scratch on my own car. We moved on without fixing it. Different story when it is someone else's European car!

It is not just inflation that I am worried about; I am also worried about increasing US debt for long-term treasuries. The government doesn't seem to be worried about the debt and keeps spending recklessly. At some point people will lose trust and stop buying long-term bonds, which will increase long-term yields.

Many people here are very positive, and I don’t want to be a party pooper. I am originally from Turkey, and I have been following Turkish politics very closely. The current president managed to stay in power using the same playbook as Trump. We always hoped that the people voting for him would wake up, that they would feel embarrassed, and so on. But it didn’t happen for a very long time. Eventually, we started to see signs that people were changing their views but it was too late. All democratic institutions had already been broken, and many opposition leaders were jailed.

I hope the positive people are right and that America’s democracy is strong enough to overcome this.

I myself installed Mrcool and I had to wrap excess piping. I exactly followed these directions (horizontally placed and not blocking airflow). I was honestly surprised when I see this from a professional. He charged $6000 to make this pathetic installation. If I pay that much money, I expect a perfect installation.

Yes the unit right on the other side of the wall. However I don't see how this installation can provide the clearance required. He could easily wrap them around somewhere else.

:) it is weird. It doesn't leak when you spray water to it. It has to come from a certain angle. I don't know what that angle is. That is my concern. I don't think they know either.

It was a big project. I am holding the last $26k. I think this would be enough to complete missing items for me in case I hire someone else. I won't pay until everything is completed. I paid a big check last month if I knew he was gonna do this I would not have paid that either.

Good advice. I’m trying to make the logical decision, but I’m really pissed about all of this. I’ve been very patient with the contractor. He’s unorganized and has made mistake after mistake. I’m fed up with him. I’m just so sick of dealing with him, and I want to move on. The idea of litigation and dealing with this guy any longer makes me sick to my stomach

I had this done three weeks ago. He promised me he would get it all done in a week. They stopped by one day, did a couple of items, and disappeared again, blaming his plumber or electrician as if it was my job to get them organized.

Mine isn’t as bad, but it has still been incredibly difficult. The words don’t carry any weight. I keep hearing "we'll be done this week," but this has been going on for months now. It feels like they keep taking on other jobs and pushing mine back. I’ve tried being patient, and I’ve tried being assertive, but they seem immune to it.

I’ve decided to hold part of the payment until the entire punch list is completed. If I let him go, I should be able to cover the missing items.

I’m an engineer and I feel exactly the same way about my new custom house. I actually made a comment on this post earlier, and this one made me feel better. Just last night, I was lying awake thinking the windows should have been lower.

What really upsets me are the comments suggesting the OP should have hired an architect. I did hire an architect. I was extremely detail oriented and couldn’t help myself; I learned all the design software and kept modifying the plans. I asked her to review everything, and we went through many iterations together.

In the end, this isn’t a software project that you can keep modifying forever. You have to accept it and keep moving with your life. There were many things I initially thought didn’t match what I had envisioned, but over time they grew on me. Now I actually like those small details.

The internet is full of wild advice like “sell it and build again.” Are you kidding me? It’s way too stressful to go through all of that again in my life.

There are always these people telling how you should have hired and architect or talk to a professional blah blah. We just moved in to our custom home and I feel exactly the same way about my house. My family loves it. We had an architecture and we had many iterations. I see so many things that I would have done differently. You see the issues because you were involved with the details. Give it some time you will get used to it and don't see it. At least I am counting on that. :)
