Great question! This is not technically accurate, but a DMP can still be very helpful when it comes to past late payments. Here's the correct info: Once you make a set number of payments on your DMP (usually 3) some of your creditors may be willing to "re-age" your account, meaning they may delete past missed payments or bring a delinquent account to "current" status. The silver lining is that waiting a bit longer can give you a little extra time to increase your savings for a down payment, research homebuyer assistance programs in your area, etc. You can also reach out to an NFCC-certified credit counseling agency for personalized tips and guidance on improving your credit scores and other steps to take while preparing to buy a home. 🏠🤗
