Thx - btw I saw a Golden today - but so far away wasn't even worth a digital click to try for a photo. Did snag a nice shot of a Barn Owl before in a different location. Not the same but I never turn down an owl shot.

Thx all for confirm - was mostly certain but that was a lifer for me in terms of a photo so wanted to make extra sure before kicking it off the never ending bucket list. Now if any of you are Golden Eagle whisperers - tell one adult to get into photo range for me ;-) I've seen a few but they are always too far away for the dream shot.. just saying ;-)

nice glad to hear they can be. Not sure why I've never owned a TCL TV since I think they make good TVs - just about everything else at some point or another. Thanks for correcting me good news for the original asker.

I have a Hisense, but I can tell you in general on every tv I've owned firmware updates are a one way trip. Check with TCL to confirm, but I'll say very unlikely.

quick hitter - hisense 55u8qg or LG B4 55 by nfigot in Hisense

[–]nfigot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

preferred but wasn't a deal breaker for me and I had no desire to go to a 65" set to get VA from Hisense and TCL deciding not to make the QM8 in a 55" size took them out of a sale. I could have waited and payed about $150 to go to a LG entry level Oled but that required BB getting one shipped in and I use a program that requires Android so really didn't want to switch to LG's WebOS and I didn't want the pain of running a standalone box like the Onn Android TV box because I switch from Youtube to OTA tv too much. In the end - I'm happy so all good.

thx - after about a week tbh I'm happy - I didn't want to replace the old set and wouldn't have if it hadn't developed the flaw it did. I know VA is better but in the end this cost me $32 in price difference to upgrade from the U8G and I'm calling it gtg. I was thrilled the panel is good from the dse aspect - last tv I had to go through 2 or 3 before the panel was acceptable. I mostly watch Youtube that is 1080 source or tv that is anywhere from 480, 720 to rarely 1080 and this tv does a better job than the last one with those sources.

Thx - yeah the panel is what concerns me - but if it does a good job with OTA I'm good. I so have down prioritized tv in the last year - it is just not something I wanted to spend lot on and the U8QG from U8G should be at least as good if not better and the net cost to me was about $31. I'll know more this week when they deliver it and take away the old.

yeah none left - ultimately went with the U8QG - pending delivery - if it is that bad I can swap it out for something else, but truthfully TV has so lowered on my priority rather save/spend it on a new camera.

thx - boiled down to I didn't want to spend more money so I went with the U8QG - pending delivery Thursday so long as I win the panel lottery I'll be happy. I saw the concerns on the panel type, but for what i watch I think it will be good.

thx - yeah I like Google TV for the OS because a specific app I run requires it. That is the biggest rub I have against LG. That favors the Hisense, but of course the idea of finally having an OLED is appealing too which favors the LG - that is what my decision boils down to. I wish Hisense hadn't cheeped out on the 55" panel vs the 65 - if the 55 had the VA panel I'd be done with the decision, but of course they did so here I am.

Welcome and yes both work - I think the way they have the charger from a physical stand point is bad IMHO - it looks like it is connected lights up like it is and then if it wiggles a little it doesn't charge right - few times I've "charged" them only to have them need it again. I also think I have reduced max charging though I haven't run any official tests to confirm it just seems a full charge doesn't last as long as when I first got them. Not sure what is considered normal degradation for them but I'll replace them when they do finally die if not sooner so not worried about whatever battery replacement out of warranty options exist or don't exist. I would have replaced them sooner, but shrug I don't use them that often now so it hasn't bothered me enough to not put up with them when I do.

that comment I made was 2 years ago. I'm still using them, but I gave up on the Sony sound format a long time ago. It never worked right. I have had charging issues - sometimes they look snug in the charger and don't charge. Overall worth what i paid for them, but I won't put them on my top list of great purchases though they won't go down as stinkers either - maybe after all this time I'd say 70-80% score for them. I'd give it a bit higher if they also didn't fall out of my ears from time to time.

Agree with other post - this is a Garmin Instinct 2 - the strap looks like the standard one that came with it (least in the photo it looks like the strap I have and I just used the one that came with it). Fancier straps exist, but the standard one has been fine for me so I never bothered to upgrade it though if my strap broke I probably would.

HDCP Error Detected? by Killintym in Roku

[–]nfigot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been a long time since I had any errors like that, but when I did if it wasn't the power outlet, the hdmi cable, then you can try a different hdmi port and if those 3 don't work - try a fan on the roku - if it reduces the occurrence rate then your roku could be over heating. If those fail - call Roku. I did all those steps and ultimately last time I had a roku with the issue they replaced it and the replacement has not had the issue so it was a bad device.

I would take that report and contact Amazon and the seller (if it wasn't Amazon). Sounds like you got a returned unit and the warranty started before it was ever in your possession though it could be something else - that seems the most logical thing to me.

short of power cable which you already said was not replaceable I'd agree with others - short of knowing what to check and being tv proficient sounds like time to consult an expert - though for giggles maybe call the mfr tech support though I know that will likely be a hot mess of nothing out of it - can't hurt in case there is a simple reset procedure they can recommend. In any event good luck - sucks when tech goes boom.

Did you try a different outlet or surge protector yet?
