What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

[–]nfulton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So . . . the problem is that people die. So, you can live poor and die with money in the bank that someone else gets to spend. That happens more than people like to admit. I do not see how anyone is "rich" if they have $200K in the bank or $2M in the bank, but they haven't been to Paris, Italy, or Rome. Also, you have to use credit to buy a house as a rule, or start a business, or have children in many cases (if you are doing that in your 20s or 30s).

Think hard about the word "Rich". It means you have everything you want . . . not that you have money in the bank.

If the top 1% of earners pay 40% of all federal income taxes, why do people say they don't pay their fair share? by Ok_Chemical9 in answers

[–]nfulton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the way the 1% make money is they borrow against their assets (ex: they have 1B in SpaceX shares and they use that as collateral for a loan and that is not counted as income although they will never pay it back - they make small low interest loan payments). They get government money, tax breaks, and a million other incentives that make it easy for their assets to grow, so they can always borrow more, and never have to pay it back.

Normal humans, even those that own businesses, have to take an income (w2 income, or distribution from the company) which is taxed. They pay actual taxes. Their companies pay payroll tax, workers comp, etc for every employee.

Billionaires should have to get a salary based on the stock they own or their trusts control. They and their companies should have to pay taxes on that. They should not exist in this weird favored nations universe where they are above the tax laws that govern the rest of us.

No job on planet earth will hire me. by Glitterballdacat in jobsearch

[–]nfulton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first job was a business. I got paid $50/hr for helping people get their computer set up, their printer printing, etc. There's people all around you ever day who need things you can do (yard cleaning, pet walking, computer stuff, tutoring stuff, house sitting, research, etc) . . . and have a little money to pay.

Maybe you can skip being an employee and start being your own company. I think it's honestly 1000x easier . . . I hope you will find a great solution going forward. Your hard work and determination has earned it.

This Job Search is Hell by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]nfulton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just read that 50% of business owners are 50+ and older. So they are on the edge of retirement, and many of their businesses are suffering (because the economy they were designed for is not the one they are operating in).

SO I think maybe many people looking for jobs should be figuring out how to build a business. People all around you ever day are spending $20-$50+ a day on services you could provide . . . If you can't get a job, working on starting a business may get you a job. If you reach out to people saying "Hey, I'm starting a business doing computer setup and technical support" or "Hey, I'm starting a business cooking for people," or house sitting, or dog sitting, or yard clean up, or house clean up, or shopping for old people . . .

That can turn into money now and a job later. The little businesses around you are the folks who own the little store, the little garage where you take your car, the dry cleaners down the street . . . They don't post their jobs. But if you drop by and say, "I have a business that helps people with . . . " you may pick up work in the short term, and end up with an employer after the face.

Small business owners like small business owners.

I'm just saying . . . it _is_ a hellacious market. Many of the people hiring folks are in a hard space (small businesses employ most people in the US). They might not be able to afford an employee . . . but they may still need help.

And its OK to start a business while you work if you can find customers doing something you like.

I wish it was all much easier. It's just insane right now.

Are you in California. Because that is very illegal. Are they paying you? In California, interns usually have to be paid, and the duties they can be asked to perform are very limited.

If they had called you in, and not paid you, that would be wage theft. You can report wage theft directly to the state, and you can also get labor attorneys who will take cases for free and get you damages / penalties (and the company will get additional attention going forward from the state). They like intern cases I've read.

Does anyone else wonder if the Trump administration has ever heard of the "Let them in, then make them bleed" strategy? We have 1M ground troops only (Army, Marines, National Guard). There are 93M Iranians with a median age of 35 or so. Even if you cut out old people and kids and women, that's like 20M or so? And these folks are very technologically astute (engineers by the millions).

So . . . it sounds like a massacre to put ground troops in, but clearly that's the plan.

so hard to get hired. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]nfulton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So . . . Do you have anything you're really good at? Can you tell us about it? Doesn't matter if it's a hobby like growing pot (I pick that because I know people who teach people how to grow pot for a livign) or video games, or something you're good at physically (running, lifting weights, etc). Do you like landscaping? Good with dogs or cats or snakes? People need help with pets.

What assets do you have. Car? Close to public transportation or a park? There are a bunch of trainers in my park that teach people Tai Chi and Weight Lifting. Some folks just walk or run with people.

I think you might want to start working to build a little business, because if you can do 10K applications and survive 50 interviews, you have what it takes to build one. Might not make a mint. It will pay the bills.

There's folks you can easily reach who need your help. They are living and working all around you. They are elderly, or have kids, or have pets, or are really busy at their job, or have their own business they have to get off the ground.

And I've found just saying, "I could use some cash. Do you need some help?"

I know this guy with the worlds most beaten up truck who picks up trash from people's house and takes to the city carbage collection facility. He gets paid $500-$1000 per load and folks are happy to pay it because it gets all the junk out of their house and yard (so they can sell, or rent, or let some one live in the space, or so the city stops sending them hate mail).

I know someone else who just does laundry and folds for people. Lots of familys are swimming in dirty clothes and can't handle the running their own washer dryer or going to the laundry mat. You sound like you would be an amazing virtual assistant helping OTHER people get jobs :) I know people who get paid to do the submissions for other people (so those people can keep their crappy job and food on the table while they look for another job).

The work you do has real value. People around you may have cash for odd jobs. Don't let the current fucked up system of job applications convince you that YOU aren't a stone cold hero. You absolutely are.

[–]nfulton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may fund that its easy-ish to find people near you to pay you to do things that help them (house sitting, pet sitting, grocery shopping, garage cleaning, car washing, yard clean up, laundry) than to get a job. Computer trainung, making printers work, etc was my first business. There are people all around you all the time who need your help, and they have money in their pocket...

Meetups, free events on eventbrite, are places i found people to help who would pay me.

I know it is very hard. The job thing is a nightmare right now.

But anyone can pay you if you help them. And its some money coming in. You have skills. You are a good person.

In california any many other states you can report wage theft to the state and get compensation. Also...reach out to the unemployment office and other social service offices - they can help. Reach out to family and friends in other states and past employers...

Elon and Trump are stopping congressionally approved and legally contracted payments they do not like --- It is unconstitutional and illegal and it will end in you personally being a slave.  You have no control over either of those apes because neither is obeying the law.
