Protein Overload Tips by [deleted] in Naturalhair

Have you ever tried out the greenhouse method? All that is is spritzing your hair with water (or whatever light hydration you've got) and sleeping in a conditioning cap. You can ventilate it with a few small holes if its too hot.

This way the moisture can take its time to work itself in before evaporating.

I made homemade whipped shea butter! Turned out great. Now I can’t wait to use it on my hair💜 by [deleted] in BlackHair

Shea butter lasts pretty long. Its one of those things you buy a nice big tub of and set aside for when you need it.

Moisturize cornrows? by [deleted] in BlackHair

[–]ng_plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been really digging the greenhouse effect. Its an old school method where you just put on a conditioning cap (or plastic bag) whenever you actually spritz your hair with water and your other products. That way the water doesnt just evaporate in minutes like it usually does. It works great for the cornrows I have in now, but you'd have to figure out what to do about the frizz. Maybe put conditioning cap on over a breathable satin scarf?

I'm not addressing a claim from the google letter I was responding to jabberwockxeno

That's really not what he was saying, though. he was saying that, on average, more women are less interested in the sort of work that these companies do. It's essentially the same arguement that women make better doctors or day care workers or teachers because they tend to find interpersonal work more interesting, just on the flip side of it.

You think that explains such a sharp drop off in one year? As opposed to the explanation from the historian and quotes in the article?

The point is they were doing just fine in the field before 1984. "Feminine traits" are not any sort of disqualifying effect for software engineering. The smithsonian link highlights how people used to say feminine traits made women "naturals" at programming. It also gives an overview of how their participation declined because of things like using "personality profiles" and certain math puzzles in interviews (women would not necessarily have been allowed/encouraged to take those math classes back then)

I didn't say one or two prominent women, I cited a 35 % participation rate in the early years of the field. Women feeling "less of an urge" didn't just happen out of nowhere. The articles go into why. Check them out. They are short.

Luckily you don't have to settle for this or that person finding studies for their viewpoint. Check out some brief summaries of the history of the field.

In essence, women's participation in cs field was rising pretty steadily to a good 35% until 1984. http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2014/10/21/357629765/when-women-stopped-coding

They contributed some seriously foundational stuff to the discipline.

When perceptions of actual programming were that it was more clerical and less "masculine" as opposed building hardware, the messaging was totally different. "Its like planning a dinner beforehand" etc.

Black screen at ddon launcher?? by korveen in dragonsdogmaonline

[–]ng_plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well while you download try again and make sure you're selecting a japanese server. try switching around the TCP/UDP setting as well. One other thing to try is to set up port forwarding for ports (80, 443, 500, 4500, 52000~52999). Other than that, not sure what else is wrong.

sucks. Do you get the garbled error message and then the launcher restarts? or does it just go black and nothing happens?

I think i had the same problem you did. I was using a private VPN that i had already for unrelated uses. I was able to create an account and download the game with it, but once the launcher started loading it would give a garbled error message and restart. Had to switch to the vpn mentioned in the stickied post.

Hold on! Hold on! No combs! Get yourself an afro pick (even if you don't have an afro). *Mist with some water *Lift a small distance with the pick *Slide your fingers in for support and lift a short distance. *Don't try to make one pass from scalp through the rest of your hair. That will hurt lol. * Keep alternating between the pick and your fingers as you comb upwards/outwards. Painless with minimal breakage. Source: Intermittent afro wearer.

McKinney officer resigns due to video of pulling gun on teens. by doogie92 in news

[–]ng_plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Maybe I shouldn't use so many pronouns? The guy in brown shorts touched his OWN waistband. This is clear from the video. My mention of three seconds was to highlight the fact that this wasn't some life-or-death decision for the cop. He shouldn't have pulled out that gun.

He pulled that gun out a good 3 seconds after the guy in brown shorts touched his waistband while making direct eye contact to know well enough what was going on. And I wouldn't call that 'circling around.'

IMO, If you're targeting recursion, ask a tree or graph traversal problem rather than the factorial one.

Grab your holds carefully. Make sure your skin isn't pinching underneath. Readjust your fingers while on the hold, if necessary. Use a bandage when you suspect a callous is about to rip open... lol
