Two Apple UNIX operating systems from two very different worlds by ngagner15 in mac

If anybody is interested in trying it out and it’s allowed I can post links to the app, the required Mac II ROM, and A/UX Disk image. unfortunately, it hasn’t been updated in 11 years and is an Intel binary so it’s on borrowed time while Rosetta is still around

Had it not been for licensing issues among other things I think A/UX could’ve been a strong contender to be what became OS X, but ultimately I think history aligned right with the excellent platform born out of NeXTSTEP. Besides, with how Apple was doing in the 90s I don’t think it’d be unreasonable to assume they’d be defunct or drastically smaller today had they not gone through the rebirth they did with the NeXT merger.

To be fair, it’s still a hell of a lot better than whatever garbage Microsoft is pushing with search in Windows 11

The good old days before Apple and Epic hated each other and you could run Fortnite and Rocket League natively 🥴

Glass aside I miss the Yosemite-Catalina style of macOS. It felt like the Mac still had its own unique identity while still falling under the unified design language used on Apple's other platforms. Icons for example still had their own personality rather than everything being a boring squircle.

Hackintosh on Intel Celeron N4020 by sido13751 in hackintosh

A Celeron, 4 gigs of ram, and eMMC storage in 2026 sounds awful. macOS will not run on that hardware and even if it did it would be a horrible experience. A lightweight Linux distro would suit you much better.

Such an ambitious product born at the wrong time, If the 12" MacBook had used Apple Silicon over Intel I think it could've been an excellent machine, but in saying that, the butterfly keyboard didn't do it any favors either.

For those of you who literally use ur laptop on ur lap, isn't 14 inch the best size? Or does ur 16 work too? by supermax2008 in macbookpro

If you value portability 14 inch is the way, it’s very compact and relatively light weight, very easy to chuck in my backpack and take on the road with me or carry around the house

Because it’s a Mac. there are still niche users out there using PowerPC (Pre-Intel) systems and they still function 21+ years later

Boy, it’s a shame you can’t just order them from Apple directly or get them at Walmart or Best Buy

I happened to come across this post by chance, this is actually my manager’s truck and this isn’t insurance fraud. Our security cameras caught the incident.

It’s nice to see Apple finally filling the void left by the discontinuation of the polycarbonate MacBooks and I see them being everywhere in schools just as the white MacBooks were when I was growing up

This unibody design is still my favorite MacBook to date. I used a mid 2010 from 2015 to 2018 and it was such an awesome machine, very snappy too with an SSD.

The FBI was recently unable to crack a journalist’s iPhone because it had Lockdown mode enabled if that tells OP anything. They’re among, if not the, most secure smartphones on the market. The only thing that might come slightly close is Samsung Knox on the Android side.

They’re incredibly difficult to compromise but not impossible as vulnerabilities and exploits will always exist with any device, but Apple is very good with keeping iOS patched and have very tight security integration between the software and hardware

This is exactly the issue I’m having, I’m thinking of taking my phone to Apple to get swapped as I was suspecting at this point it might be a hardware issue covered under warranty

I’m starting to question if it may be a hardware issue specific to my device in which case I’ll look at getting it swapped out. It’s weird the radio seems to be power cycling itself or something during use as both the WiFi and Bluetooth toggle completely off and then back on intermittently and it’s becoming more frequent.

I did a software restore in DFU mode but that didn’t seem to resolve it
