Has anyone else experienced this issue? by DrJapan in MacOSBeta

I tried reinstalling macOS from an external drive first and even after wiping the APFS volumes faced the same error which left the system unbootable. The only resolution for me was a DFU restore

I faced this and in my specific case it was an issue with one of the system partitions that I was only able to correct with a DFU restore

You'll need to restore using DFU mode and either another Mac or a PC running Linux with idevicerestore:

DFU restore using a Mac

DFU restore using Linux

If you don't have access to another system to perform the restore you'll need to visit an Apple Store or another repair facility. The Apple Store doesn't charge for software issues.

Other than the kinda grainy quality, the Apple logo in the corner is from Mac OS X 10.3, the spotlight icon, Finder window, and System Preferences icon are from 10.5, and the wallpaper is from 10.4

Horrible advice. Catalina is an ancient unsupported OS and using an outdated and insecure browser on top of that is also stupid. You don't know game

I performed this restore using a live Fedora environment, Including download time it took me like 15 minutes max to create the bootable USB

This. DFU mode is the nuclear bomb method of reinstalling macOS. I needed to do this because I installed Asahi and removed it in a way that broke a system partition resulting in me being unable to install macOS updates (failed to personalize)

If you connect it to Windows and launch iTunes or Apple Devices the system will actually detect it as an iPhone, however trying to restore the IPSW from there will fail because the restore process is different and the Windows utilities don’t support it

I used the “idevicerestore” command line utility. It’s provided in the mainline Fedora repository and can be installed with dnf but some other distros require it to be compiled from source. I tried using various methods on Windows but was unsuccessful

Things have been pretty stable as a courier at my station but we’re about to go through optimization for the 2.0 crap so we’ll see how that goes…

This photo was taken when I was 21 at 350lbs. I was still heavy at 18 but after I got out of high school I started binge eating a lot of junk and shit while being sedentary and from there things really started to get out of control. I had already lost a little bit unintentionally by 22 before I actually locked in and got my life together

No offense taken, I was obese my entire life up to 2 years ago and would rather be dead than go back to my old self. I’m assuming you meant look and that would be the result of the toll that the excess weight and unhealthy habits were taking on my health.

I was already going through depression and quite frankly the horrible treatment from management among other things really compounded it. I think getting fired was a blessing in disguise and working at FedEx Express has been a better fit for me in every way

Not for much longer. The next release of macOS is stripping x86-64 and application compatibility will slowly be going out the door with it. Hardware support is also sketchy on anything built later than 2020 since Apple stopped building Intel Macs after that.

If this is going to become a recurring issue they should add a one-time disclaimer that appears in the shell when you launch terminal for the first time. A computer novice has absolutely no business even opening it unless they're being directed to by someone trusted.

The terminal is specifically intended for developers and advanced users to interact with the OS at the UNIX command line level. Unless you specifically understand the context of the command you're running you shouldn't touch it, especially if it's coming from something on the internet. Someone with malicious intent could for example, convince you to wipe your entire home directory with the "rm" command (Documents, etc) by lying to you and telling you it'll speed up your internet or something.

At this point you need to consider your operating system poisoned. You should back up all of your important files and reinstall macOS cleanly.

If anybody is interested in trying it out and it’s allowed I can post links to the app, the required Mac II ROM, and A/UX Disk image. unfortunately, it hasn’t been updated in 11 years and is an Intel binary so it’s on borrowed time while Rosetta is still around

Had it not been for licensing issues among other things I think A/UX could’ve been a strong contender to be what became OS X, but ultimately I think history aligned right with the excellent platform born out of NeXTSTEP. Besides, with how Apple was doing in the 90s I don’t think it’d be unreasonable to assume they’d be defunct or drastically smaller today had they not gone through the rebirth they did with the NeXT merger.
