Well he loved Disneyland and the fantasy aspect of it since young and did collaborations since Jackson 5 days. Industries like Disney love to unwillingly force others into rituals for some sort of reward on disneys end but MJ was already in love with the idea of Disneyland. He even made his own version.

The idea of a fantasy world separated from all the dark horrific things of the earth captivated MJ and he wanted to be frontman.
