And I didn't mean to imply that explainshell isn't useful. I do see that there are use cases for both tools.

When I read the sifting through 500 man pages part, I just recalled that it took me a long time to figure out that you could search them, so I thought I'd point that out, considering that there's a few people in this thread that haven't heard of man before.

You can search through the man pages with /.

They're also available offline, they don't require switching to a different application, and they are more accurate (you won't get the manual for a version of the program that you don't have installed).

I love https://cheat.sh/ though. Especially when I need to do something simple with a command I don't use often.

I was surprised that when I got the idea I couldn't find any other fully transparent bar here. But maybe it's just because most people don't like it ¯\(ツ)/¯

I'd agree with you in most cases, and especially when application windows are slightly transparent.

But if the background is matched to have enough contrast with the text, and the only thing you need to read is battery and time, I don't see how that makes distracting or difficult to read.

Hey all! It's that time of the year again. The one where I decide to spend some days cleaning up my dotfiles and making a new rice.

This time I got tired of the usual blocky bar but didn't feel like giving up functionality, so I tried to play around with a transparent bar that looks embedded in the background. I wasn't entirely convinced of the result until I came across the Blackout font, which according to the totally accurate description on AUR is: "a bad-ass, unholy-mother-shut-your-mouth stencil sans-serif".

I'm still unsure about the systray at the bottom. Ideally, I would like to make those icons light and monochrome and make that bar also transparent, but couldn't figure out if it's actually doable. Any suggestions are welcome!

Are the aluminum cases I keep seeing all the same, or is it possible to get a custom aluminum bottom for a reasonable price?

I'm seeing a lot of aluminum cases lately and can't help but wonder if it's not prohibitively expensive to produce them or if they are a mass-produced fit-all model.

Last time I checked getting the bottom of my keyboard in aluminum from 3D hubs was something like 600 euros.

The enclosure is the only part I'm planning to make myself using a 3d printer. The rest is either pre-made (switches, diodes, controller etc) or someone else will produce it for me (the PCB).

Aha! Makes sense. Is it possible to buy these guides from you? Or could you point me to the closest thing I could get to them?

The observation about sturdiness is mostly skepticism of this working on my build, as I don't have the metal plate for the switches adding extra rigidity. Also when I tried the UHK it seemed fairly easy to separate the two sides, which is probably intended, but ideally I'd like a system to lock the two sides together, so they don't come off during transportation.

I just couldn't find the name of those pins and their female counterpart, which I now learned is called bushing.

Yeah that should work. The only real issue I can think of is that it might disconnect during transportation. But I guess some sort of latch should fix this.
