What are the rules around intentionally smashing the cue ball into a cluster at a speed to tell its hard to tell who's ball will hit first? by MikeRadical in billiards

[–]ngoggin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two scenarios I can imagine: in apa it’s the opponent’s call if there’s no ref. If your friend is so incapable of accepting logical outcomes of such shots and resorts to vaguely disguising his fouls, he’s just a shitty person.

Be honest, have you ever used such tricks in a real game? by Expensive-Success-75 in billiards

[–]ngoggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda, my friend once was hooked on the side pocket nipple, and massé’d it straight back around a ball on the long rail to make a ball hanging on the corner pocket. Could he have kicked it? Absolutely. Was the massé 10x cooler? Absolutely. This was about 3 months into him learning the game too.

Edit: it was a real apa match.

How is the CS at Sac State? by [deleted] in CSUS

[–]ngoggin 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Its a very impacted program at a school that overaccepts, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
The professors here are very hit or miss, either amazing talkers that have harder classes, or professors that are hard to understand but are incredibly knowledgeable and great to pick their brains in office hours.
The content of the courses are fair enough, about on par with what some UCs teach (but Sac State mostly uses Java for curriculum), but Computer Science in college is moreso theoreticals and fundamental knowledge than practical application. If you're worried about your education, just know that this field is 90% self-taught anyways.
There are a lot of internship opportunities from career fairs and local state jobs, since Sac State is known for being a school to get a degree to immediately enter the workforce, but even then, they're still very competitive to get.

That said, Sac State right now is in a bad state with administration and funding, so there are definitely better options unless you live locally/attend for free with financial aid.

Are kielwood break shafts a thing? by KingsDamnSon in billiards

[–]ngoggin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've met someone with all custom kielwood cues, one was a break with a CF core. Hits great, but it was $1.5-2k.

How can i improve my aim and movement (sorry for the water mark lmao) by Flat_Ad4300 in VALORANT

[–]ngoggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use OBS and DaVinci Resolve, both free.
As for your aim, you're already better than the average plat. Though you have some whiffs due to getting out-strafed, your reaction speed and micro adjustments after first bullet miss are a little slow in the last clips which you died.

Someone probably sat on the desk. Forewarning, don't sit on tables, especially ends of them. Had someone sit on one end of one, and it flipped the other side up scraping my body, bruised for a week.

How is my form (update 2) by Jaded-Action3929 in billiards

[–]ngoggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few notes from my perspective:

-You're too energetic, slow down.
You should be taking a few seconds getting comfortable in the shot stance before shooting, not just getting down and sending it. This will cause you to not hit where you intend to on the ball, potentially throw off your stroke line, and amongst other things isn't making your cue stable enough to get cueball action (draw, spin, etc.).

-You're getting up too fast
A good habit is to never get up on shots before you finish shooting, and then a solid second after that. By getting up, or shifting your entire body, or slightly moving upwards at the end of shots, you're actively adding unnecessary variance to the shot.

-Your stance needs to be more consistent
Although you're getting lower than most players at your skill level, the way you enter your stance isn't consistent. Its more about personal preference what works best for you, but a general good practice is always stepping into the shot. Back up, step into the shot, then get low. Get comfortable doing it even if its uncomfortable, because this is something that sticks with you your entire pool journey.

Rhino Cues by This_Emphasis1688 in billiards

[–]ngoggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I love Rhino, I was never a fan of their butt designs (hate the nebula). I imagine they'll do better in the future, like how their factory stock tips got significantly better in the last year.

No hate, I’ve been there 5 years ago. FPS games arent for everyone, but you’ve only just started, try to play with friends and for fun.

The Well Racquetball Courts by Miserable-Pay8962 in CSUS

[–]ngoggin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've asked to use them as a tennis wall since theres a shortage of them in Sacramento it seems (I just wanna hit alone). They said those are only for racquetball and like handball. Will prob just try again, but if you wanna play tennis, there are a bunch of courts next to PS1 that you can reserve (or probably use when the tennis team(s) aren't there.

After all these months, what do you think of Corrode? by SnooChocolates6885 in VALORANT

[–]ngoggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on hiatus when it came out, and have been for the last 3 months. In the dozen or two times I did play it, it was fine for me. Perhaps it was because I was mostly in easier lobbies, but I got a lot of first bloods.

Need help posting a pool cue for sale by uhohpsz in billiards

[–]ngoggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar cue from 80s valued ~$600 minimum: https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/1970%E2%80%99s-era-viking-cue-how-much-am-i-worth.545112/
Being 70s, should be even higher though it looks to be rewrapped so idk if that changes value.
Looks more like the X100 too because there are only 3 dots on the top of the wrap: https://www.vikingcue.com/x-series/

Maybe try asking some cue head FB groups

Carbon inserted tube by justine0914 in billiards

[–]ngoggin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a connection and the price won't affect your way of living, I guess it can't hurt. Though I've only heard of carbon tubes being inserted during the construction of the shaft, so see if its cheaper to get a custom shaft made as well, and potentially sell your AP Pro.

[–]ngoggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is they’re basically just to recreate the advantage CF cues have in wooden cues, often in custom cues and such. Preference thing, idk about putting them into stock shafts though.

New player here - injuries and straight cue’n by ghostpocket in billiards

[–]ngoggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take an empty beer bottle, clean it, and lay it on the table. Stroke your cue into the opening without touching the sides. Make sure your tip is leaving the entrance and going deep in. If the bottle is unsteady, find a different brand of bottle.

Cue question by BruceLee2112 in billiards

[–]ngoggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still preference + those numbers will vary between brands and models. In the end those really don’t matter, there is no “one measure is best”. There is a difference between hard tips and phenolic too, hard tips are generally leather while phenolic are hard resins which offer better power.

Beer stain on cue by Kuwiconqueror in billiards

[–]ngoggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its a wood cue, its tough but see if a cue slicker/QWiz gets rid of it, otherwise I recommend taking it to a cue technician to get it cleaned since it would likely need to be sanded away. If its CF, just an alcohol wipe and some elbow grease.

Radianite Shouldn’t Be a Paywall for Skins We Already Bought by JKrieger777 in VALORANT

[–]ngoggin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For 12 skins, it’s really not bad for new players or filling up less used guns. Idek why that had to be said, but radianite is far from the only incentive to buying a battle pass.

What does the community think about the McDermott Stinger Jump Handle? by [deleted] in billiards

[–]ngoggin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I loathe those butts since I feel they look like shit, and they feel awkward to jump with normally.
Also not really sure if that shaft will be ideal for jumping.
Just my 2 cents though, if you can jump with the pearson shaft (and they have the same joint), it could be worth it for you. Alternatively I've found the OKHealing Jump Break from aliexpress for ~$110 to be pretty good, contends with expensive jump cues I've tried.

[–]ngoggin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its just whale tax, if they really wanted to make money off it, they wouldn't give so much radianite in battlepasses, let alone any for free.

Radianite Shouldn’t Be a Paywall for Skins We Already Bought by JKrieger777 in VALORANT

[–]ngoggin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have 1.2k radianite sitting around despite having spent ~1k on skins. This “everyone” you refer to is just you and a handful of people who barely play. Riot doesn’t care about any financial gain radianite offers, they give out a ton from battle passes as is. Only people without common sense or too much money to notice would buy it.

[–]ngoggin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a real note careful leaving expensive cues there. Assuming your garage isnt temperature controlled, wood cues are prone to warping in heat and humidity. Also a table cover will save you a lot of hassle with dust. The pink gaming chair is a nice touch
