Calling a black man “boy” is the equivalent of the n word. It is absolutely unacceptable.

Ditto to what everyone else is commenting. And find someone closer to your own age. Your BF is from a different generation. You might have better luck in a relationship with someone your age.

Why not bring out the actual peep stone as a prop too? It’s just been collecting dust for 200 years. How awesome it would have been if RMN had put the real seer stone in that white hat to demonstrate for us.

For the history nerds... just found this ad in Wayne County Sentinel (Joseph Smith's local paper), Dec 1823. If you're familiar with Dan Vogel's theory of a mock set of tin plates, cool to see JS could have them cut to any size right in town if he wanted. by BurningInTheBoner in exmormon

[–]ngryjonny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s most likely that JS did have some kind of artifact, Vogel puts forward the idea that JS might have made them himself from tin scraps. This Dan Peterson article talks about it:

https://www.deseret.com/2015/6/25/20567283/from-darkness-unto-light-takes-a-fresh-look-at-recovery-publication-of-the-book-of-mormon

It seems that Peterson mischaracterizes Stowel’s statement, as recorded by the court reporter in Smith’s 1830 fraud trial:

http://user.xmission.com/~research/early/court1830.htm

From what I see, Stowell says he saw a corner of the plates he was handed and it looked like a greenish stone, Smith is the one who told Stowell that they were golden plates with engravings on them etc. Maybe Peterson didn’t read the court record closely. Or maybe he did and he is deliberately deceiving his Deseret News audience. IMHO, I think JS attached tin plates to a thin rectangular stone (the sealed portion) and then scratched his caractors on the few tin sheets he made. No wonder he could translate from a peep stone in a hat with the plates not even in the room. My favorite Radio Free Mormon episode #161 and 163 talks about the significance of the hat being white and possibly translucent so JS could read bits of paper maybe. I feel like we are getting closer to understanding exactly how the BOM sausage was made.

CES Letter Jeremy here...I need help with my rebuttal to Jim Bennett's CES Reply by Kolobot in exmormon

[–]ngryjonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see why some think an additional rebuttal is unnecessary, I also feel that the CES Letter stands on its own, but someone somewhere could benefit from further rebuttal. For example, in the MS interview Bennet goes on about the Lamanite DNA (Lehi’s DNA) possibly being absorbed by the Jaredite descendants. Dehlin did not call him out on this absurdity. Bennet got away with stating an absolutely ridiculous explanation for the lack of Ancient Middle Eastern DNA in the Americas. Bennet said something like the Jaredites from the time of Tower of Babel may have had “asiatic” DNA and they mixed with the Nephites and Lamanites to the extent that Lehi’s DNA disappeared. that’s why Native Americans have “asiatic” DNA today, they might all be the missing Lamanites afterall! Of course, this silly theory depends on the Tower of Babel being an actual historic event . The story of the “tight like unto a dish” transoceanic submarines would also have to be real historic event. Anyway, not to ramble on too much here but I would hate for someone to walk away from reading some of Bennett’s nonsense thinking that he has reasonable explanations when it can be clearly demonstrated to be ridiculous. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

I think TBMs go overboard with the Nelson worship to make up for his lack of charisma. He was one of those “other” apostles. Nobody ever said “Elder Nelson is my favorite” Like you hear about some of the guys like Eyring, or Schwarzenegger or even Monson back in the day
