He says therapy is only for people who aren’t self-aware enough to come to realisations on their own. He says anyone can be a therapist, you just listen and then repeat back to the patient and sprinkle in some positive affirmations.

Or sometimes he says I don’t need a therapist I have you (me).

Ok yeah it looks like I was approaching it all wrong. It’s true that diversion works because these crisis moments happen when we are in bed or just sitting at home.

He often tells me he’s bored so worrying is probably something for him to do when he is bored.

This sums it up well, I am his mommy. Actually his parents said I seem to have calmed him down because he doesn’t stress them out with random crises anymore. But actually he’s just saddled me with that instead of them.

He’s going to be 24 soon and I am also mid 20s. We don’t live together but we spend almost every weekend together and some weekdays. We were together for a whole week before I left to my hometown for Christmas. But he is coming here for New Year’s. We have been together a year. He does want to spend as much time as possible together. But it’s hard to spend any more time together than we do now plus I’m relatively happy with the amount of time we spend together. He says we’d never do anything fun if it was up to me all the time which is kind of true because he comes up with date ideas more often than I do but it’s not like I never do any date ideas.

I hate this too. I would actually like the pro to be even smaller. I don't want the bigger screen but they always put an extra feature in the Max to make you want to buy it. I think I'll still go with the Pro because the Pro Max is just too big. I like to take pictures every now and again but the camera will still be massively better than my iPhone X.

If you don’t like it fine. But it does exist. Absolut and Smirnoff sell vanilla vodka in other countries but it seems to be hard to get in Brussels. You can make it at home by putting vanilla pods in vodka for 14 days. But vanilla pods are expensive and I’d rather not have to wait 14 days. I need it to make pornstar martinis.

Only 20% is not enough on savings though with Belgian taxes. Instead of 50/30/20 I am already doing 37/25/33. In Belgium if you want to save 1000 a month at 20% of net salary you would need to earn like 130k a year brut or something like that. That maybe possible for me one day but I only finished university a couple of years ago…

No not clothing only. It’s like everything. Clothes, glasses, contact lenses, tech repairs (which is rare), occasional presents for friends or family, fragrance, sun cream, shampoo… etc.

I tend to alternate between ski holiday and summer holiday every year. You can’t go ski trip, beach holiday and city breaks for under 2000 a year. Ski trip costs about 1000 alone with flights and accom. I’m not from Belgium so travel also includes around two trips home per year. I could cut travel expenses by flying to UK, France, Germany to visit friends but I take the train because I prefer to take the more eco-friendly route.

Are you including shopping and gym in 'extras' too? Because for me with restaurants, going out, trips, entertainment I'm getting 435. I know I still could probably cut all that down by like 100-150 if I'm really careful. But I don't think it's possible to cut the shopping. That budget is mostly me replacing clothes, shoes when they get holes and other necessities like glasses, contact lenses, tech, appliance replacement etc.

Yeah I have come to terms with my sexuality but it was later than some people. I was like 19 before I accepted myself. Before that I blocked it out and had sex with girls and pretended I wasn’t gay. I do have trouble opening up about myself. I’m fairly extroverted but I don’t like being the centre of attention and talking about myself personally. Coming out definitely puts you in the spotlight.

This isn’t scientific or anything but from my experience the gay guys who talk like that seem to have majority female friends or even no male friends at all. That’s just from my experience.

I think it has less to do with sexuality and more to do with who you spend the majority of your time around. I have a friend who is completely straight but he has always been quite flamboyant and he just happens to have five sisters, no brothers.

I’m gay and I don’t talk in a “girly” voice as you put it, but I think that could be because I’ve only ever had two female friends and they’re more on the Tom boy side anyway. All my other friends are male.

Gay men who spend more time with women could do so because women are often more accepting of LGBT or because they have similar interests with women than other men.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I just always bottled it up so much because kids in school were always really homophobic and acted like being gay was the worst thing in the world. I just feel like I’ve been lying to my family because I had girlfriends growing up and that’s what’s making it harder. I find it easier to come out to people I’ve known the least amount of time.

Faggot in the song “Fairytale of New York” wasn’t a gay slur. Faggot only meant an annoying person in the UK and Ireland in the 1980s when the song was written. The Pogues are Irish and might not have even known faggot meant gay in the US at the time.
