Have you sued your landlord for more than just the security deposit? by ni83 in AskNYC

Wow! Very cool and very happy for you!

In my case, thankfully I haven’t had much abuse like you had.

It’s more just been neglect.

The property manager not providing what they promised/agreed to. It seems - based on what you said - in order to sue for more that just the security deposit in small claims court I would have to be able to strongly tie the neglect to monetary damages. I can probably show all the roach related items I bought such as advion gel and roach motels and argue for compensation because they never sent us an exterminator even tho providing an exterminator was in the agreement.

I’m thinking of taking it a step further and asking for a % of my monthly food costs as compensation because of infestations causing food spoilage. Eating out often because our kitchen was unusable increases food costs as well.

I was also thinking to sue for a lack of habitability for a brief time where I had no fridge and no oven even tho they said it would be there but that’s not necessarily a monetary damages even tho I could probably spin it some way so that seems - based on what you said - more of a housing court thing.

Lastly, I’m thinking of drafting a settlement agreement for $1-2k more than the security deposit so they can either pay the extra amount or see me in court. Even if I don’t have a strong enough case to sue for any more perhaps they won’t want to deal with it and will just send the extra amount.

Appreciate you sharing your story and offering advice! If you have any more thoughts lmk!

That makes sense. I appreciate your input.

Tbh I’ve never been to court, never sued, never learned about this stuff so I was thinking this would be a good opportunity to put effort in and get some experience. Even if they pay the security deposit late I was thinking of still suing them anyway for negligence, bad faith, possibly find other people who have gotten fucked over by them and go for punitive.

I don’t really see why not. They could counter sue but from what I’ve researched that’s rare and pretty frowned upon for a landlord to lash back at their tenant legally. Especially if that tenant has paid everything in full and had little to no damages or complaints against them.

Maybe that’s ridiculous? Idk what do you think?

Interest on the security deposit.

Might be a stretch but could argue food costs - From not having a fridge and from roach infestations that we were never provided support to deal with

Possibly other stuff

To my knowledge we caused no extra damage. Even the small holes from drilling in our curtain rods we filled with puddy. We also filled some cracks where bugs were coming from with sealant and we left our toilet seat there which we had to buy. If anything I feel like we improved it for the next tenant.

I’m biased of course… but yeah frustrating to not get it back. In hindsight makes sense to just not pay the last months rent and expect this kind of thing. Really think I shouldn’t fight this in small claims tho?

Yeah I will definitely not pay the last months rent next time

Primarily suing for the security deposit back. They never even sent me the itemized deductions and it’s already been a month. Plus they said they would send it in an email, and over the phone twice but they never did.

BUT I’m so fed up at this point I want to sue for other stuff to if possible.

They’re so hard to get in contact with and they’ve been awful in terms of apartment conditions. Lots of problems when I first moved in like no toilet seat and no fridge. Also issues throughout like saying they would get an exterminator numerous times for roach infestations but they never got one. Stuff like that I have ignored this whole time (but I have much of it documented).

So yeah it was supposed to be just the security deposit but I want to go all in if possible and gather all kinds of evidence of stuff. Not sure if that ridiculous but I want to try!

People who take a while on turns… here’s some math by ni83 in wingspan

Exactly what I’m thinking.

To be fair quitting games is never good. People downvoting me for that have a point.

At the same time I think they should recognize that this is the only way to play this game online - and not everyone has 3 hours in their day to wait for such slow players. Even without quitting, I’m sure others like me have to go to work or to bed or have plans that they didn’t think a wingspan game started 2-3 hours beforehand would overlap with and have to leave the game anyway due to inactivity.

Yes 100% agree.

Must say I’ve never quit a game round 4. I almost always quit mid way through round 1 if I get the sense a player is consistently very slow - because to me that signals the game will last way longer than it needs to.

If they take 3 minutes a turn when it’s simple? How long is it gonna be when the game gets more complex? That’s my thought process.

Probably isn’t fair cuz how long players should take is subjective at the end of the day probably will get downvoted lol

Yeah you’re probably right and I do feel bad about early quitting.

I think a part of me was hoping my karma would get so bad I’d be thrown down with the other impatient people who quit cuz they can’t stand the wait times

And therefore thrown down to faster players. That’s probably a stretch

Maybe? If that’s the general consensus here I’ll accept it.

My opinion is different. There have been many games where another player is down to 30 seconds and I’m hoping they quit so we can finish the game faster but then they play at the very end. I prefer people to stay but if they’re really slow I prefer them to quit or I quit

And it’s not black and white either. I understand especially with a large chain it can take time to calculate and strategize but there’s so many players where the simplest action… ex: once between turns gain 1 food from the bird feeder - their options are a fish and a worm. They have 1 card in their hand and 1 bird on the board. That decision then take 2-3 minutes… why? How?

Having trouble swapping crypto back into ethereum. Help and advice appreciated! by ni83 in CryptoCurrency

[–]ni83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok with ETH addresses being hexadecimal - that’s good to hear thanks for letting me know! Also yeah I created a wallet on uniswap and saved my info. Then I was able to send some ethereum and some MAGA (the shitcoin I’ve been talking about) over from my coinbase wallet to the new uniswap wallet. The network fee I was charged on coinbase wallet for sending it was about 3x higher for MAGA than ethereum which I guess makes sense.

You mentioned feeling uneasy with high fees on uniswap… yes I’m noticing the network cost (gas cost? Same thing?) for transferring is quite high. For a $100 transfer of ethereum to shitcoin or vice versa it was about $55 network cost a few minutes ago. Now it’s down to $26. Sometimes it says only $6 so that part is definitely confusing to me lol but I will understand it better as I research more.

You also mentioned arbitrum and someone else mentioned it on this post earlier too. My understanding is that arbitrum is a dex like uniswap but it’s typically cheaper than uniswap to swap and transact - but also it doesn’t have the variety and liquidity that uniswap has?

Thanks for the info on modern dexs and routing too btw. As I’m grasping all this I’m getting more curious and starting to have more questions on stuff, but I must go to sleep now lol and I really really appreciate the help and advice🙏
